Derek Appleby horary book...

Hi all,

I was wondering if any of you have read Derek Appleby's book, "Horary astrology," which I believe originally appeared in 1985, the same year Lilly's book came out. I am wondering because I was thinking about buying a used copy, and I am aware that he is one of the first astrologers responsible for the "traditional revival."
I appreciate any and all comments.

Hi Peter,

I've been meaning to reply to this. I've heard that the book is going to be republished shortly by Dave Roell of the Astrology Centre of America. I used to have a copy but I don't know what happened to it. Derek Appleby was very influential in bringing horary back into use. I don't agree with all of Appleby's methods but I'd still say this is a great book, and one that was very important. So I would recommend it yes.

Hi Deb,

Thanks for commenting on the Appleby book. I was worried that people were not replying because they disliked it, and they did not want to be rude.
I was actually going to bring it up again tonight or tomorrow, and say that it is ok to say one does not like it, for Derek Appleby is no longer with us, so nobody would get hurt. But you answered my question first.
Thanks also for recommending the Komilla Sutton article. I read it a while back, but I forgot about her discussion of the Jupiter twelve year cycle.

Maggie Hyde gives a charming account of her experiences of working with Derek and there are links to the publisher's site and to a pdf extract which features three sample horary interpretations - that gives a good indication of the style of the book. Definately one to consider.
