Hellenistic, Medieval & Renaissance astrologers Hall of 1 by Dima Gur Hellenistic, Medieval & Renaissance astrologers Hall of Fame The title of the thread is a bit tongue in cheek, but I'm truly interested to know your opinion about the best, most influential, the 'must reads' of Hellenistic astrology, Medieval Astrology (both Islamic-Arab-Persian and European) and Renaissance astrology. The most often cited hall of fame for Hellenistic astrology consists of: Dorotheus, Valens, Ptolemy, Firmicus and Rhetorius. (*) my impression at least About the medieval hall of fame, I'm pretty certain it should consist of: Bonatti, Abu Mashar and Sahl Maybe also: Mashallah, Schöner, Ibn-Ezra, Al-Biruni and Al-Qabisi. In terms of Renaissance astrologers: Lilly and Morin probably. Maybe Culpeper in the medical field. Anyone else, who didn't come to mind? Would love to hear your thoughts. Not sure about Manilius as his material is rather unorthodox, even relative to the Hellenistic scene. Ouranos: If we'd had those texts / manuscripts, that would be lovely, but as far as I can tell we don't. Maybe the Hermes Trismegistus text, but I'm not sure if it may be a psuedo-Hermes from a later century (remember something like that). Any other forum members? Wasn't aware that Abu Bakr was a major figure in the Islamic astrologers scene. With regard to T??jika (Perso-Arabic-style astrology), yes, at least some of them. They are discussed in that paper; Sahl ibn Bishr was the most influential.
