To write a book/ Put away your laptop 1 by borealis I am usually a lurker however now I am losing sleep over the difficulty I am having with this chart. It seems so simple but I can not wrap my mind around it. Any help would be much appreciated. The Chart Stats: November 4, 2005 Vancouver, British Columbia Question: Should I write a book? If yes, What subject? Querent: Myself (sorry I'm not sure how to post the chart) My deductions: I thought my question was quite clear but as soon as I started studying I became confused. House 1: Myself The Asc is at 19'21 Sag. conjunct fixed star Merak(Power to achieve) conjunct moon in 12th and conjunct Pluto 1st. (I am aware that Pluto is not used in Horary however I still like to give merit to at least the existence of it) The moon in 12th does not concern me too much because It is so close to the Asc (3 degrees) This all deduces to a fair Jupiter ruler and the relation of Asc in Sag sort of excited me. So far I am seeing Philisophical and creative potential. Jupiter itself is posited in the 11th house and is sextile Venus who is in the 1st house. House 11: Aspirations Keeping in mind the fact that I have always dreamed about writing a novel, this so far sounds promising so I shall examine further this house of aspirations. The sun and Jupiter seem so obviously good but there are problems. Both lie in scorpio and the sun forms a trine with Saturn (8th house) and an opposition with Mars(5th) The Ruler here is Venus at 19'28 Libra. When using Equal house System I was astounded to see that the MC is exactly this 11th cusp?? Does this MC play an important role here? It is conjunct Mufrid (Prosperity from work, planning, strong desires, a tendency to excess, a fondness for rural pursuits, occultism) 9th House: Ruling books I figured would be step two. I will not go into great detail but this house does not give me much detail. A weak Sun as ruler. Perhaps that the topic should be related to the sun's placement in 11th? Where does the topic question go? Then there is money, House 2: Part of fortune is here unaspected, I can't imagine that being poor but the ruler is Saturn in the 8th house under Leo and quite debilitated and I can't imagine that being good? House 10 (Work): Has Mercury as a ruler which makes sense to be positive in this question but he is debilitated as well and found in the 12th house, trine that Staurn in 8th. I am not attempting to write a book right now so without going into too much more detail here I should mention 3 more quick things: 1. Numerical Value: I did the point system. My Jupiter ruler is a whole +4!! and the highest value of all the planets! Overall this is a numerically weak chart I believe. Should I defer judgement until a stronger one arises or does this seem typical? 2. My Judgements: I belive this chart is telling me that I should write a book and I will be supported by my closest friends and family however I will need the financial support of another in order to succeed. Even if "success" is achieved it would not likely be grand. My ego will most likely be crushed in the process. The topic should relate to philosophy/ love and inspiring. Perhaps a novel that encompasses a philisophical undertone. I will be prepared to do this within the next few months. Can anyone shed light to the sanity or insanity of these judgement? Should MC be used? Perhaps a different house system? Where would the TOPIC of a book be found? Thank you . Quote Sat Nov 05, 2005 9:19 am
by Deb It?s the sanity of the question I?m concerned about - most people who commit themselves to writing books have a subject in mind first! I used a combination of psychic powers and chart manipulation to reproduce your chart (a time is usually helpful); but this is one chart where the Moon on the ascendant, mid-way through its sign and void of course, seems to say it all. (I?m not including Pluto today) What?s happening? Nothing really. Your mind was probably wandering into a question that had no real impetus. First rule of horary: the question has to have fundamental importance. And you can only use horary as a basis for advice if you are prepared to exhaust all levels of common sense in the process. It operates through you, so it can?t tell you what to do in such an objective manner without you being involved in the process. Should I defer judgement until a stronger one arises or does this seem typical? First work out whether this was a genuine question or a ?mood of the moment?. Sit on it and think for yourself whether you are interested in writing a book. Think about what you would be interested in and feel compelled to write about, and how that would be likely to impact on your lifestyle, time and finances. Give it some sincere thought and then ask a more focused question. But I can?t help wondering if its pointless anyway, because to become a writer you need to think like a writer - which would mean ignoring all the warnings where the chart is clearly showing it will screw up your whole life and will make you poor, and deciding to go ahead and do it anyway because you just can?t help yourself. The most important element of this chart, I think, is Venus, MC ruler, in your first house, moving out of its sign of detriment and getting some dignity whilst it also moves to the sextile of your significator in the 11th. It does look like you have some new professional vocation struggling to emerge inside you; but you?re not fully in touch with it at the moment. Think Venus in Capricorn sextile Jupiter in Scorpio, and the topics they lead you towards. My ego will most likely be crushed in the process. The topic should relate to philosophy/ love and inspiring. Perhaps a novel that encompasses a philisophical undertone. Just went back to re-read your post. Gosh I?ve really confirmed your own judgement haven?t I?? Quote Fri Nov 11, 2005 10:51 am
by borealis Thank you for your feedback Deb,you have pretty much hit the nail on the head considering that you don't know much about the situation. Deb wrote:It?s the sanity of the question I?m concerned about - most people who commit themselves to writing books have a subject in mind first! I write short stories on a regular basis about a number of different topics. While my stories get great reviews by those who read them, I have never had the guts to pursue publishing. I do have a number of stories that could become novels. I am not questioning the sanity of the question but the insanity of the situation itself. Deb wrote:Your mind was probably wandering into a question that had no real impetus. First rule of horary: the question has to have fundamental importance. And you can only use horary as a basis for advice if you are prepared to exhaust all levels of common sense in the process." It was not really the wandering at only that moment. It is the wandering in general. The situation is a very deep pain and emptiness. The feeling that no matter what I do, I'm doing the wrong thing. Common sense tells me go back to sales and the business world because that's where my talents are and where I was financially stable however that is like going back to hell for me. Money or not. I hate the business world. Being able to write is more something I would enjoy and not something I am talented in or should actually pursue. Deb wrote:"Think Venus in Capricorn sextile Jupiter in Scorpio, and the topics they lead you towards." I will think and feel. The real question here is What should I do? You are right, a new direction is emerging and I am totally in the dark. As this new life brews my belly continues to burn. Unfortunately I don't believe there is a Time for this question. It has been on the stove for a while now. Thanks for your help Deb. Hopefully my studying horary will at least satisfy my urge and obsession to learn new things:) (whether the topic of those things are known or not:) Quote Fri Nov 11, 2005 9:37 pm
by amandaW I noticed this thread about writing a book and I thought I would post my chart as a comparison. My question was ?should I write the book?? The difference being that I do know exactly what the book would be about. (In fact bits of it are already written although with a different purpose in mind and probably more will get done when I am in the mood anyway!!) 30 Nov 2005 13.09GMT London It is not a very pleasant chart (although I have noticed that few are these last couple of months) Asc, MC and 9th house are all ruled by Jupiter, which is in the scorpio in the 7th. So it is impossible for me to separate myself from my career/vocation from the book. Well I think that is true in both the obvious sense and in the content of the book; which would be partly dependent a lot on my personal experiences. I think that as for the other book chart posted I am also really asking ?what is it that I should be doing in the broader sense? ? sort of ?should I write the book or continue job hunting or whatever else the universe can suggest?? Since Jupiter can?t make an aspect to itself I looked at the moon for guidance and sadly not only does it not make any future aspect to Jupiter it is slap bang in the middle of the 8th house in scorpio and about to conjunct a retrograde mercury. Hmmmmmmm. This is a seriously bad moon. Probably not a good omen I would say! I guess I will rethink the whole book idea sometime in the future- like about now!!! Added to which Jupiter is totally overwhelmed by its location in the grand cross of Saturn, mars and Neptune (the latter I can?t ignore in this chart as it is so prominent in my natal chart and its transits at present). Although hey could be worse at least they are not all angular! I am also suspicious of the mars position- although in regiomontanus it is in the 1st house, it is looking like a mars that wants to be in the 2nd- a book that could be a waste of my money not to mention energies? Or maybe that is what I am afraid of and the mars not actually really being in the 2nd is an indication that I wouldn?t lose money. Mars and Saturn are also a trifle debilitated ? for that read buckets of debilitation- maybe I should ignore them altogether? Perhaps this is what Deb meant when she mentioned ignoring all the warnings in the chart and writing anyway? The question I have, that I can?t see because it is my chart, is what the mercury represents in the bigger picture. It rules 3rd 4th and 7th so not something I can discount as trivial. Also 25 Scorpio is right on my natal MC. Obviously at the level of the book itself I am rethinking ? but what does it mean at the level of my overall career/vocation? Clearly it is trying to tell me something. Shouldn?t I be getting some clue now mercury is direct??? Like direction? Because I am not! Any suggestions from an outside observer? 5 by borealis It actually sounds like we are possibly in the same situation. My explanation was perhaps unclear. I write for relaxation, enjoyment and personal satisfaction. I do have a number of stories that have been completed but have potential to develop. Each of these stories are totally different topics! Currently, as my chart depicts I am in a major "carreer struggle" exactly as Deb describes! After careful consideration I have decided that I will in fact write a book. I have chosen the "philisophical" story as my chart seems to suggest. However, I will not be writing as a carreer or any form of work. I am simply not prepared or talented enough to take that on. I will continue looking for another path. Thank you for sharing your chart...it is really helpful to see different scenarios but I could not possibly help for I am far too novice. As far as my chart...I realized it was helpful to think.."Should I write the book for carreer?" or "Should I write the book for myself". The chart was much more helpful when I looked at it from this perspective. Quote Wed Dec 07, 2005 8:27 pm
by gemini sungirl a good book illuminates the passions of the writer. if you want to write a book get passionate. And get writing! if writing fills that emptiness you mentioned then pretty soon you will find that you have written the book. But if it doesn't, then find something else to do that does! I did that After reading both borealis' and amelia's comments, I was wondering if the questions were more in the realm of whether a book should be written NOW or not. Whether you're able or not - and it has at least as much to do with Saturn (discipline, organisation etc) as any other planet - should be indicated in your natal charts. The right time is when despite all evidence to the contrary, you just HAVE to sit down and write. And I know this because I just finished a book today Kim Quote Mon Dec 12, 2005 12:23 am
by amandaW It's my day for updates on horaries.. when I posted to this thread in December on my similar question to Borealis's- I commented: "I guess I will rethink the whole book idea sometime in the future" In fact what happened was that in January I shelved ( sorry about the pun) the whole idea. However last week - with mercury retrograde again, and pluto now transiting the horary MC, I started thinking about it again - but rather than a factual book it is now taking the form of a novel - same themes different presentation. Still not sure whether it will get written - but this time I have been making notes...... I have not done a horary for the new book... if the old horary still holds then it probably won't happen.... or are the conditions so changed I should be asking again? 9 by borealis For some reason I am leaning to the answer that whether you draw a new one up or not, you should not forget the original horary answers. Perhaps draw one up regarding time? Like, "Is it a good time for me to be able to complete a book?" My situation has played out EXACTLY as the horary laid out. I said: "I will be supported by my closest friends and family however I will need the financial support of another in order to succeed. Even if "success" is achieved it would not likely be grand. My ego will most likely be crushed in the process." I had much support and encouragement from people. My mother actually sent me money, without request, to go to a class. My ego was definitely crushed!! I simply don't have the technicle skills to stand on my own two feet. On the bright side, my storylines were solid. I won a spot in a local competition and will be published at the end of the year. If that is not close, I don't know what is!!! My struggle still remains, I have no idea what to do for a living!! This emerging carreer is causing a great deal of emotional pain on its way out!! Good luck to you, an if you do rephrase the question, please post it. I would love to take a look:) Quote Wed Mar 15, 2006 6:02 pm
