The so-called “Devil Comet” is here! Better known as Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks, this short-period comet enters our inner solar system every 71 or so years.
But what does Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks has to do with our current sky?
It is appearing during a Total Solar Eclipse while 2 important conjunctions are near perfection.
*** Jupiter/Uranus conjunction in Taurus and Mars/Saturn in Pisces.
"Comets are messengers and powerful harbingers of change. Historically, comets have been seen in a negative light, as evil portents of war, the death of kings (leaders), epidemics, difficult weather patterns, seismic events, disasters, public unrest (like riots), and various other human miseries."
"The comet's journey by Andromeda and Pisces suggests that it may be sending us a message about the crisis and danger of polarization in our world. When the comet enters Aries, the message will evolve toward the importance of liberating the soul from ignorance and bondage. Across the world, hardened ideological fault lines have become the main features of political and social discourse. Perhaps one of the comet’s messages is a reminder that we need to move away from black and white thinking and develop a more nuanced and compassionate world view."

Juliana Swanson offers some historical perspective about this comet.

I also find it very interesting that the British government website is now including info on eclipses and comets This is actually quite informative and worth the read on locating/observing the devil comet.

Elisabeth Vreede in 'Astronomy and Spritual Science' has a few letters on comets from the teachings of Rudolf Steiner.
In a lecture (1910), Steiner explained that comets are like something which disrupts the rules and is necessary to maintain the progressive march of the spiritual evolution of humanity.
He compared the apparition of a comet to a newborn. It is the element which causes new and unpredictable events.
From Kepler's time we know that comets are as numerous as fishes in the sea, although only a tiny fraction of them are visible.
Last visit of 12P/Pons-Brooks was the year I was born. I have to say it was much nicer the first time and less scary!

Rod Chang's article is very evergreen and will fit nicely on Skyscript, so I've been in touch and will be adding that one to site in the next day or two. Rod also does fantastic sky photography and has a wonderful image of this comet that I will add in too.

Not sure if this belongs here but thought others might find these two links on tracts about comets and "signs" in the heavens in the 16th century interesting:

With its imposing size reaching the dimensions of a city, it is among the ten largest comets known to date. The tail of 12P/Pons-Brooks extends almost 50 million kilometers, or a third of the distance between the Earth and the Sun." Pretty impressive!
