Dignities and debilities of the natal Sun? 1 by Georgius Generally I follow the idea that an essential weak planet is showing its bad sides and an accidental weak planet has difficulties to act. But how to deal with this when the natal sun is concerned? I cannot believe that every person with Sun in Aquarius without good aspects is cursed with arrogance! I know a lady with her Sun in the 1st house and conjunct the South Node. Sure she has no weak life force: She is 99 years old! So how to deal with dignities and debilities of the Sun in the natal chart? Quote Thu May 09, 2024 12:39 pm
Re: Dignities and debilities of the natal Sun? 2 by Dima Gur If the Sun is pride (amongst other things), Sun in Aquarius (debilitated) is having low pride, or at time no-pride. So not arrogance, I would say. About the 99 YO woman, we also have to look at the rest of her chart of course, and what house her Sun rules. https://www.gurastro.com Quote Thu May 09, 2024 10:35 pm

Dima Gur wrote: Thu May 09, 2024 10:35 pm About the 99 YO woman, we also have to look at the rest of her chart of course, and what house her Sun rules. The Sun rules her 8th house. Not only is she conjunct the South Node she also is part of a T-square: Square to Moon in Taurus in the 3rd and square to Saturn in Scorpio on the MC but still in the 9th house. There are no other traditional aspects neither to Transsaturnians. (There is a semi-sextile to Jupiter in fall and in his own term and face in the 12th, to Venus in triplicity and her own term and to a peregrin Mercury both in the 1st and all three in Capricorn.) So according to traditional delineation I would say this is the worst and weakest giver of life (Sun) I’ve ever seen! It could only be a bit worse. But she is 99 years old. I know that there is a term called Hyleg and this planet was seen as giver of life. But still the Sun is the source of all the light (fixed stars excluded). Quote Fri May 10, 2024 5:45 am
Re: Dignities and debilities of the natal Sun? 4 by Dima Gur To your first question, it's a 'yes' somehow, though it's more complicated than that. To the second question, can you upload the lady's chart? https://www.gurastro.com Quote Fri May 10, 2024 1:46 pm

Re: Dignities and debilities of the natal Sun? 6 by james_m some similarities in the chart with queen elizabeths chart - cap rising, saturn in scorpio in the midheaven area.. a very prominent ''solar' 10th house saturn.. 2 or 3 benefics in the ascendant as well, depending how you process these ideas.. nocturnal chart as well, so moon takes on greater prominence.. Re: Dignities and debilities of the natal Sun? 7 by Ouranos Detriment does not mean less or bad, it simply means 'different'. The bride is wearing white on her wedding and suddenly you see a woman arriving at the church all dressed in white. You know that she is 'Out of Sect'. There is a theory in business that says that if you have a small business, it is better to have employees who have the same outlook, like a small family. But if you have a large business, try to hire people who think differently, so that you can get a better perspective of your direction. Before the globalization, people were living in small communities where it was not viewed very well to think differently But today, communications have brought up all the differences of the world and it means that you now have a space to express your difference. As long as you can live with it. That's the world we live in today and ancient views need a refresher. Look at Harvey Weinstein birth chart - MA (L1 in a night chart at the ASC), SA, VE all dignified. Is it any better to abuse of your power and your rulership? Which one is better? Blessings! Re: Dignities and debilities of the natal Sun? 8 by Georgius Georgius wrote: Fri May 10, 2024 5:45 am I know that there is a term called Hyleg and this planet was seen as giver of life. This remark made me look for the Hyleg in this chart which is not easy and not unanbiguous. For reference see Deborah Houlding, Notes on Dorotheus III: the haylāj, Kadhkhudāh, and terms of life (PDF). If one takes the Moon as Hyleg in this nocturnal chart then the Alcocoden is Venus (ruler by sign, triplicity and term of the hyleg Moon). To take the Moon for Hyleg is ok with Alcabitius. (The Moon is in the 5th house of whole sign houses, in a feminine sign and she is conjunct Mars albeit out of sign and in trine with Mercury, ruler of her face.) It is not ok with Dorotheus and Ptolemy. The Alcocoden Venus is strong near ASC and so she could give her greater years of 82. Sun or Moon have even more greater years but I cannot see for which Hyleg they could be Alcocoden. If I understand it right Dorotheus would not take the Moon because she is not in a house he thinks to be appropriate. He and Ptolemy would take the Sun for Hyleg. (I do not know if they would reject the Sun because of weakness.) Venus cannot be Alcocoden then because she is “not seeing” the Sun. So Saturn might be Alcocodan. He is in the 11th house, peregrin and in square with the Sun. Not that strong he gives middle years which are 43.5. So I think Venus as Alcocoden is more fitting although the lady in question has already 17 years more than Venus can give. Quote Sat May 11, 2024 3:53 pm

I’m old enough to have lived in a world without so called “globalization” and I experienced much more possibillities and tolerance to think and be different as nowadays. Ouranos wrote: Sat May 11, 2024 3:20 pmThat's the world we live in today and ancient views need a refresher. If a planet in detriment is just “different” or if it’s “bad or at least unstable” is such a fundamental difference that I cannot believe that something like globalization shifted the matter from one to another. As far as I know essential dignities were observed for thousands of years. I try to understand what the great astrologers of the past had detected and be careful before dropping their rules. First I think I didn’t understand correctly and ask others how they see the matter. So thank you for your thoughts! This is not the traditional understanding, is it? If I may weigh in on this particular question: no, it's not. But depending on how far back you want to go, there are two very pertinent points to consider. One is that Ptolemy's tropical zodiac wasn't the default option of most ancient or early medieval astrologers. I don't like to argue from 'celebrity' charts, especially not ones with iffy birth times, but as Weinstein has been mentioned, his sidereal nativity has Mars (rising, if the popular time is roughly correct) in a Venus sign and Venus (also angular, and ruling the presumed ascendant) in a Saturn sign, both of which seem fitting. The other point is that the debility of detriment as later defined (a planet occupying a sign opposite its domicile) does not exist in the ancient sources. What we do get occasionally is the (usually implied) notion that a planet aspecting its own sign by opposition is detrimental for that sign (and the house falling there), rather than for the planet itself (or its other sign). https://astrology.martingansten.com/ Quote Sat May 11, 2024 6:58 pm
