A friend came to Canada some years ago. In January this year, she took an English proficiency test. The results were okay, but not to her satisfaction. She continued to study. In early May, she took the test again. The results were once again okay, but not to her satisfaction. (She got better marks in the areas she did poorly on the first time. She got worse marks in the areas she did well on the first time.)

The friend asked me whether she should continue to study and take the test a third time in late July. She specifically asked me to do a divination. She was concerned about the costs of the test. Also, if she were to commit to taking the test a third time, then she would have to stay home and study rather than go out and play during the summer. If the results of the third time would be more or less the same as the first and second time, then she would might be inclined not to take the test a third time.

My thoughts are as follows:

1. Saturn and the Moon are the querent.

2. Saturn is in Pisces. Pisces would be if the querent does not take the test again. Aries (e.g., the next sign) would be if the querent takes the test again.

3. The 10th house is examination, being profit from knowledge. The 10th House cusp is in Scorpio. Mars is examination. Mars is in Aries, where Saturn is in fall.

4. Incidentally, Mercury, being the natural ruler of knowledge and language, is in Gemini. Mercury has essential dignity. However, Mercury is also combust.

5. Jupiter is in Gemini and is in detriment. The 2nd House cusp is in Pisces.

I take these things to mean that:

1. If the querent takes the examination again, the results will likely be disappointing. (E.g., Saturn is in Pisces. The next sign would be Aries, where Saturn is in fall.)

2. The querent has good knowledge. (E.g., Mercury has essential dignity.) However, she is unable to demonstrate her knowledge. (E.g., Mercury is combust.)

3. The querent mentioned concerns about costs. As Jupiter is in detriment, this shows that the querent's financial situation is not great. Both Saturn (the querent) and the Moon (the querent's emotional side) are in signs aligned with Jupiter (Pisces and Cancer). The querent is genuinely concerned about the costs of the examination.

4. The Moon is in Cancer. This is the querent's emotional side. Mars would be in fall in Cancer. The querent has also developed some bad feelings toward the examination due to receiving disappointing results the first two times.

5. I am not sure if the English proficiency test is graded on a curve. As mentioned, Mercury has essential dignity, but is combust. The 7th House cusp is in Leo. If the English proficiency test were graded on a curve, then this would indicate that the querent is unable to demonstrate her knowledge, because the competition is too stiff.

6. What is interesting is that Mars is about to leave Aries for Taurus. I am not sure what this means.

There is an additional fact. The querent lives in a small town, which is somewhat distant from Vancouver, where the examination is located. This increases the hassle and expense of taking the examination. Mars is not only the ruler of the 10th House, but also the ruler of the 9th House.

The chart shows Mars moving from Aries into Taurus. The 3rd House cusp is in Taurus. It would be quite speculative to say that the examination may at some point in the future become available near the querent's small town.

The querent is Aquarius rising ruled by SA in the 1st. She is not confident about her question.
The MO co-ruler in Cancer in the 6th is Antiscia VE in Gemini ruling the 3rd of written tests and papers.

If it were me I would look at the aspects of the Moon. Is is leaving something worse than where it is going to next? If so, that would favor a better result. I would look at the dignity of the significators for the querent to see how effective they are at getting what they want. In this case, the Moon is applying to the ascendant lord via trine but both are in weak houses and Saturn isn't doing well and is focused on the 2nd house, where the 2nd lord is also in detriment. To me this suggests a waste of money. It's hard to know the significator for the exam without more context but I agree Venus could signifiy it.
