Saturn square the nodes on the MC /IC axis but conjoins chiron.So Harry is an orphan Parents perished in a car crash /Again Saturn squares the nodes in mutable signs.
When the idea came to her during her 4 hour delay on a train carriage her progressed moon was approaching the conjunction with her progressed sun in the 8th house,- the seed was planted and over the next 5 years germinated in a wealth of writings.

Thanks Zosma - the elevated Neptune is 'magical' isn't it. It's effectively stationary too, beginning it's direct phase with relation to the Sun. The close trine to Saturn retrograde seems to symbolise her ability to effortlessly make the magic real for her readers. This is not to say writing came easily to her, but that she can conjure these imaginary worlds in a highly effective way.

Her first Potter book was published on 26 June 1997, just a month or so before her 32nd birthday. I've posted the solar arc directions in a bi-wheel below. The SA ascendant has moved precisely to her natal Saturn and will move to trine natal Neptune during the early years of the Potter book series. Solar arc MC is just about to trine natal Uranus. Thanks astralwanderer I missed the stationary Neptune,there are many interesting features uncovered by Solar Arcs & progressions, It is indicative that being the final depositor of all planets but the Sun. Mercury situated on the royal star Regulus,how appropriate is it that she receives her wealth through Royalties.
She recieves $100 million per annum for her books & $60 million through marketing & films.That 4 hour train delay was the most auspicious & life changing. thats a nod to her Saturn squaring the nodes.
But how is it that she has so much wealth, what is it in her chart which points to incredible wealth ? I can see a successful writer but wealth beyond anybodies comprehension? I would expect a Jupiter/ Pluto conjunction in the 2nd house or some Raja yoga. Moon Mercury & Venus are in Hayz.
I am suprised that Saturn has been so helpful,it has the most dignity of all planets angular , Ascendant ruler & bucket handle shaped focus.The bucket pattern indicates a desire to become associated with activity in the mainstream of society, so that the person feels they belong to it. However, what this often means is that the person expects the world to discover their own unique talents, rather than them trying to fit in.

It was during a course by Rumen Kolev that he mentioned that the 14 to 17 degrees of Pisces are the degrees of the human figure water vase on shoulder pouring water down below, so because of a 24 degree lag between sidereal & tropical the Aquarian figure is here kneeling pouring water of the milky way, And that these degrees are fortunate should planets or angles be located there, anecdotally I have found planets placed here show hidden wealth in nativities. Maybe it is her Saturn on these degrees that created her good fortune in wealth creation
as a gifted writer.

Hi Zosma - thanks for the feedback. Rowling's Mercury is absolutely exceptional. Although Gauquelin associated the Moon with writers, her Mercury is clearly at work here. She seems to generally write very long books too - lots of words. I believe some of the crime novels she wrote under her pseudonym Robert Galbraith run to 900-1000 pages.

Even though the birthtime is somewhat dubious (as pointed out by James) the following solar return is magnificent. It is set for her birthday in 1997, approximately one month after the publication of the first Potter book. Her exceedingly powerful natal Mercury comes precisely to the MC of the 1997 return. Even though we may never know the precise moment of Rowling's birth, there must be some divinatory or symbolic significance in this time.




The Mars-Saturn opposition across the Porphyry 6th-12th axis is intriguing, giving that this year launched her into the public consciousness and literary stardom. Mars is in detriment and Saturn is in fall. Saturn is in fact stationary in the return, which gives the planet high focus. However, it seems that Rowling experienced a significant period of mental ill-health from the point that her first marriage broke down in 1994 through until her divorce in late 1995. The background to the writing of the first Potter book was also a time of significant personal hardship and struggles with money. Perhaps this opposition is signifying this context.

The following chart shows the return (inner) with Rowling's natal chart (outer). Only traditional planets are shown. Note the transit of Jupiter in the return close to the degree of the natal ascendant. I wonder if this time is not too far wrong, but much investigation would be required to see if it works over a range of events.

Even if the birth time is uncertain we can delineate some things quite well. For instance the locations of the planets are known (maybe Moon is not correct) and so we know the locations of the planets in the return chart (again moon with some uncertainty). We can see something even if the angles and house cusps are not reliable.

So I stay with this information and handle it with care.

Lord of the 1st house is Saturn. It is peregrine in Pisces, has a square to Jupiter, which is his dispositor (and maybe lord of the 2nd) and an opposition to the Moon. (This Moon is an important significator for her being a woman and being born by night most likely.) But maybe Saturn and Jupiter are angular! The very strong dispositor and almuten of Jupiter, Mercury (dignified by sign, exaltation and term!), is certainly angular and in conjunction with Venus. As Jupiter is in his exile (but has dignity by triplicity) his dispositor Mercury fills in. Mercury is closely conjunct the fixed star Regulus and so even more accentuated. Being a writer is shown very clear.

A strong Mercury is good with finances. Money comes from other people (Mercury in 7th). And for to have such a huge success partnership in business (7th) is essential. The Sun, Lord of the 7th, is very strong in Leo and resides in the house of labour if this rectification is correct enough. She had very good assistance regarding the boring aspects of her work. And also shown by this sunken Sun, Rowling is really well known for her work but not seen as any big star in public.

Returning to the Moon I realize there is a square to Jupiter. Depending on the real birth time and on the house system used she may be in the 8th house of death. This moon is not an easy one but also not really bad having dignity by triplicity. Maybe there is anxiety, loss and fear. “Harry Potter” is not a sweet story. Death is always present. Mars in the 8th confirms this. Dispositor of the Moon is Mercury again: communication, speaking, writing, dealing is very, very important and gives strength and some stability in spite of its changeable character.

If the South Node is on the MC really that would show instability in her work, fame and public image. We cannot rely on the Lot of Fortune too. If it is in Sagittarius in the 10th or 11th it is quite strong. And we have this wide conjunction of the North Node with Jupiter giving a little bit of enforcement to this natural significator (and probably accidental too) of wealth.

thanks for articulating all that.. i wanted to say some of that too earlier today - you can still work with a chart with uncertain time and get some good astrological insights, even if the angles have to be discounted.. i guess it depends on how far one wants to go with speculation on the birth time, but regardless - one can still consider a chart in the absence of a birth time.. in fact, i advocate for this! however, i think it is important up front to be clear on the ambiguity of the birth time which was not done on this thread, prior to my post... positing a link to adb is helpful for others..

i might still comment on this unverified time chart, and don't want to appear to be pouring water on others fire and interest in the chart... i thought i better clear that up.. more later maybe..
