I?ve just realised that it?s been about 6 months since I last awarded the Skyscript ?best of the web? award on the links page. How about members send me some recommendations of their favourite sites so that I don?t limit this award to the sites I fall across? If I get more than three I?ll select the ones I think are best for content and all round navigation, design, etc, and put those nominations up for a vote.

Ok a few sites I like:

Diana Rosenberg's site.

Diana is probably the leading authority today on the Greek/Ptolemaic use of fixed stars and constellations as oppoosed to the more visual neo-Babylonian approach recently advocated by Bernadette Brady. Diana's website has a lot of interesting material.

I assume Christopher Warnock's Renaissance Astrology site has previously won the award before otherwise I would nominate it?

In terms of other traditional focused sites I like Nina Gryphon's site. She is a former student of John Frawley and has clearly put a lot of thought into it. Her blog is great and full of beautiful artwork. Check out the online radio show on traditional astrology.

As for more general sites I imagine Star IQ and Astrology Weekly are used by a lot of skyscript users. They are great sites. However, another site I would recommend taking a look at is Cafe Astrology run by Anne Heese and Adam Banks.

At first sight this just looks like another pop astrology site. However, on closer inspection that is not the case as the site covers material from beginners to more advanced students. Its stance is quite eclectic. I particularly like the coverage of predictive techniques ( including Solar Returns) , relationship astrology and the book reviews. Its an attractive site and very user friendly.

These are all worth a look whether they 'make the cut' as they say!

Hi Granny,

All the links you propose are great too. I use them all. However, Ann Wrights Fixed Stars site is a previous winner. Still its a terrific site and always worth promoting.

One traditional site I stupidly forgot to mention is Maurice McCann's. Its got loads of highly useful information on Horary, William Lilly etc. Its a very useful site if you are trying to gain more understanding of Lilly's astrological technique.

While I too put Skyscript at the top of my list, here are my suggestions to while away a few more hours...

I have to put this first because reading a tiny section in one of Celeste Teal?s books sent me searching for information, which of course brought me to Skyscript and the tradition, for which I will always be grateful. Teal uses the outers but nods to the tradition and her book Predicting Events with Astrology is one of the best I?ve come across for a clear picture of how to use all the predictive charts ? secondary progressed, solar and lunar returns (and even diurnals if you wish!) and how they fit together and complement each other.

Thanks for the great response. For now, can I say ?let?s hold it at that!?. There?s ample here for me to review and I?m going to have a hard time cutting these down to a short list ? which is now going to have to be more than three. Luckily I can disregard a couple because they have already received the award. These are:

Sorry I was giving my own preference which is more towards the traditional approach. However, I don't think Deb has ever indicated the sites proposed have to be traditional. Indeed one I mentioned certainly isn't.

I?m really grateful for the feedback. This is hard because all of those sites are very good for content, which is why they?ve been recommended. But my basis for making the award has been that the site is not only useful and to be recommended for being informative in content, but it?s a ?cut above? because it is also well designed, pleasing on the eye, logically organised, quick to load, easily navigated, etc., etc. So it?s the ?best of the web? because it makes full use of the multimedia potential of the internet.

For that reason the shortlist doesn?t include some site that are wonderful in content, but are let down by the clich?d twinkly stars on black background, confusing navigation or text that is luminous or difficult to read. Also some of these sites have already received the award.

I?ve cut the list down to six, and even at that I?ve had to eliminate some really good sites to get a mix of modern and traditional content and include those that have a speciality, such as the gryphon astrology site?s broadcasts ? which is great for showing how the web has the potential to shift the way that we learn and become informed on astrology in the future. So, sorry if I?ve missed anyone?s favourite this time but I definitely plan on reconsidering some of the above in the future.
