Godparents 1 by Janet Hi everyone I have been reading the forum questions and answers for about 18 months now but this is my first time of asking for some help. I had a question asked yesterday about a missing person. The horary could not be read as it was late degrees on the ascendant. The missing person is godfather to the querent but not a blood relation. Which house do godparents 'live'in? Is there a specific place for them or would I need to turn the chart from querent to parents to friends to son as the godfather is the son of the querents parents friends. Sorry if this has come up before and been answered but any help would be very much appreciated as the circumstances surrounding his disappearance may change and another question asked. Love the forum! Thanks Janet Quote Thu Mar 08, 2007 11:24 am
by Deb Hi Janet I wouldn?t turn the chart to that degree. On p.156 of CA, Lilly shows that if there is no clearly defined relationship between the querent and quesited, but the question is asked out of genuine concern for the missing person, then signification can be taken straight from the ascendant. On the other hand if you are asking about a missing person who is perceived as a threat or an enemy ? someone you are trying to catch or to hunt down ? then their signification is taken from the 7th house of the hunted. Hope that makes sense Deb Quote Thu Mar 08, 2007 11:33 am
by Janet Hi Deb Thank you thats a great help. I think it makes sense to use the ascendant as it was out of genuine concern and all that chart turning sends me in a spin! Hope all is well with you :-) Janet Quote Thu Mar 08, 2007 12:02 pm
by Draco Which house do godparents 'live'in? This is quite an interesting question. I have never had to seek out a godparent in a horoscope, but I would like to know of other's opinions as to how this might be done. I was thinking that a 'parent of God', or a parent in the purely spiritual sense, might be found in the ninth house from that of the parent concerned, hence godmother's being the 6th and a godfather's the 12th? Perhaps another way would be to find the godparents, as 'second in command' in a sense, in the exaltation rulers of the zenith and the nadir (where possible), with the true parents of course, being represented in the domiciles. To be a godparent is an honour, and exaltation would carry this theme of special graces. Where an exaltation ruler is not available, perhaps triplicity could be used? What do you think? Where might a godparent be found in the chart? Quote Wed Mar 14, 2007 1:22 pm
by Draco I come from a tradition where there`s no custom of godparents Me neither, so I would interested in how those who do have godparents find them in the nativity. a godparent is usually a friend of one or both of the parents?? Often I suppose, yes, but a godparent might also be a brother or sister, or a cousin of the parent etc. I suppose then it would seem obvious to count the eleventh from the tenth if a godparent is the friend of the mother, or the third from the fourth if the father's brother, but this does not feel quite right, as this would be to regard the godparent as merely 'mother's friend', or 'father's brother' and gives no special assignment to the distinctive role of 'godparent' whatever the relation to the parents may be. This is why I suggested the ninth from the relevant angle as 'parent of god', or parent in the spiritual sense. I too thought about the eleventh, house of 'good spirit', especially for a (fairy) godmother, as it is the next cusp along from the tenth, as 'secondary mother' in a sense, and the fifth for a godfather for the same reason. The ruler by exaltation idea was a rubbish one which I take back. I still think that the ninth from the relevant cusp of the parent, as 'parent of God' feels appropriate. 6 by Draco How strange. No, I wasn't talking to myself. There was a post between my first and second to which I was responding which has now vanished. Quote Wed Mar 14, 2007 2:59 pm
by Deb I saw it Draco but I didn't delete it. Perhaps the poster changed their mind ? Quote Wed Mar 14, 2007 3:11 pm
by Draco Hi Deb. Perhaps the poster changed their mind ? So it seems. Oh well. Actually I was hoping you might respond on this Deb. Do you think that there is anything in the idea of counting the ninth from the cusp of the relevant parent to find a significator for a godparent in the natal or a horary? Perhaps simply the ninth cusp itself? If you were seeking to specifically identify a godparent in the chart, what might you do personally? Quote Wed Mar 14, 2007 4:28 pm
by Deb I?m not too sure. I wouldn?t have thought the 4th house because there isn?t any blood line or traditional lineage, but I might have thought the 11th as the house of benefactors and people we expect to support us. I can also relate to your argument for the 9th though, especially with the word ?god? being in the title. I suppose it depends upon the context of the question, and the test is, does the signification match the person? Quote Wed Mar 14, 2007 4:54 pm
by astro-teacher Draco, Ive seen some where (and I cant think of for the life of me where) in a traditional source stating that the Godparents are ruled by the 6th House. So you are right in that judgment. Aaron Brody www.antiquus-astrology.com Antiquus Astrologia Quote Wed Mar 14, 2007 10:54 pm
