I initially posted the following questions in Matt's thread in the Mundane section but they may be better placed here.

1) What are orbs covering the period when planets become invisible by the Moon's light? (must vary depending on Moon's phase)

2) What are traditional interpretations ?

I'm having difficulties in determining occulation in charts, in general. If anyone has an example of such planetary occurances, please post on here. Thanks much!

Are you sure a planet could be invisible at all because of the Moon's light?

I remember posting something about a Moon occultation that I had seen mentioned on an astronomical site and then being told that I was wrong. From memory the Moon's visible size is about 1/2 degree. If a star cluster is bigger than that there may be a problem.

Perhaps a more technically proficient stargazer could "unoccult" me on this.

I do not see the phase of the Moon being an issue though.It is not the light of the Moon it is the Moon itself.It is a large object in the first sphere and if it orbits,say Venus which is further away in the second sphere it acts just like an eclipse of the Sun.

It was considered significant as an omen in Babylonian era astrology

Here are examples from G. Cannat, "le Guide du ciel 1998-1999", Nathan edition, (I translate) :

- 1st April 1998, 8 AM GMT, Occultation of Aldebaran by the Moon. Visibility zone : Indian ocean, South and South-East of Asia, Japan, Pacific ocean.

- 23rd April 1998, 7 AM GMT, Occultation of Jupiter by the Moon, invisible in Europ. Visibility zone : Atlantic ocean, Africa, South-West of Asia.

- Same day, at 8 AM GMT, Occultation of Venus by the Moon at 45? West of the Sun. Visibility zone : East of South America, Atlantic ocean, Africa, North of Madagascar, Indian ocean, Arabia, India.

Jupiter and Venus being very near each other, at Addis-Abeba (Ethiopia), Their occultation by the Moon was simultaneous.

All occultations by the Moon published in this book were calculated by Jean Schwaenen of EAON (European Asteroidal Occultation Network).
