I am struggling with this doubt. Mashallah's and Sahl's teachings does seem rather clear, although there is a gap.

In Mashallah's On Reception, in every case when the moon applies to another planet, she commits her disposition regardless of a reception relationship, whereas in other examples the six remaing planets only commit their dispositions with reception. And this kind of reception seems to be only when a swift planet "A" is in any major dignity (or two minors) and applies (al-ittsal) to a more ponderous planet "B". (I have found only one exception to this rule in a horary which Mashallah puts the Sun and Mercury under its rays in Geminy, and he says that Mercury commits his disposition to the light).

Meanwhile, in Sahl's Introduction, it is written that every planet only commits disposition - including the moon - in a reception relationship.

Regardless of the theory, there is a practice that confirms or not this statement, so I want to listen to other members of the list: what really works? Does the commiting of disposition demands reception or any planet who is doing al-ittsal commits its disposition to other planet?

I also want to put my own opinion. When studying charts, I discovered that, when there is al-ittsal with reception, the things promised by the swift planet only happen in the planetary period of the more ponderous planet, but when al-ittsal occurs without reception, the things promised by the more swift planet happen in its own Firdar.

Examples:


Mercury in Taurus in applying square with mars in Leo, without reception - Things promised by Mercury happened in Mercury Firdar itself.


Venus in Cancer applying to Mars in Cancer (Venus in Mars' terms and triplicity, aka reception) - things promised by Venus happened in Mars' Firdar.

Well, you quoted mashallah and Sahl, so I looked what Abu Mashar said about it:

30 - pushing nature is if the planet A applies to the lord of the sign in which A is (B). (meaning, reception be it by rulership, exaltation, etc)

31 - pushing power is if the planet A is in its own house (e.g. moon in cancer) and applies to B

32 - pushing two natures if of two kinds
first kind - if A is in a sign in which it has dignities and applies to another planet, with reception (eg. moon in cancer applying to jupiter)
second kind - if a diurnal planet applies to a diurnal planet, and the two are in a diurnal place, or vice versa.

33 - pushing councel - when a planet applies to a planet from whichever direction the application is - and if this is from friendship or compatibility or with reception, it is favorable; but if this is from antagonism or enmity, it is the opposite of this.

I think the model of Abu Mashar is more complete, so we can pass away the problem of disposition and reception.
