Birkat HaChamma 1 by Olivia This is actually astrologically related, so I thought I'd post. Wednesday morning is the once-every-28-years Jewish mitzvah of blessing the sun because by Jewish-Babylonian goal years and days, that's when it returns to the same place at the same time it was when it was originally created per the Genesis myth. That it falls on Erev Pesah may or may not add extra significance. There used to be a tradition of blessing all the planets when they made their 'return to position of creation' for the time and place, but that pretty much stopped in the middle ages. Over at http://www.coejl.org/blessthesun/Massechet_HaHammah.pdf there's a neat little tractate that gathers MANY of the Talmudic arguments pro astrology into one place - fun reading - even if you're not Jewish. And you can find the wiki here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birkat_HaHammah Cheers - Liv Quote Mon Apr 06, 2009 11:33 pm
