Brasil also has elections this year, and I guessed would be good a start to put up the ingresses for this year, set to the capital city, Bras?lia. I will not post any astrological comments as so far I'm still not able to pronounce anything noteworth, but I expect to be able to do something soon (after finishing my reading of Astrologia Munda). Obviously, anyone willing to jump ahead and say something is quite welcome, and it does not need to be related to elections, but since it's the single most important event for us this year (after the World Cup, obviously ) it could be easier to grasp something.

As an introduction to the matter of election, I could explain a little bit of our political enviroment. This year election votes for deputies (each state has a chamber and there is also a federal one) senators, president and leading members on the Mercosul.

About the presidential election, there will likely be polarization beteween two running candidates: Dilma Roussef and Jos? Serra. The first has participated in militia fights during the dictature, was a minister under the current goverment, and is blessed by the president, Lu?s In?cio Lula da Silva (Lula). Their party is the Worker's Party, a centre-left winged one. As a side note, their color is mainly red (the party's flag is a red one with a big white star in the middle). Lula's popular approval is big enough that he had not to worry about corruption scandals during his goverment, and his social programs have earned a lot of respect from the poorer layers of society (like giving a monthly help to each poor family in the country, so that kids could be kept going to school, and other variations of these).

The contender, Serra, is more centre-right winged, but here, as above, this terminology does not apply very well. His party, Brazillian Social Democracy, was in power from 1995 to 2003 through sociologist Fernando Henrique Cardoso (he was reelected). Then Lula's term begun. The empresarial and cultural "elite", as part of the press, and also those not happy with the populist programs of Lula tend to favour this side. Those not happy with the high level of alledgely corruption during Lula's term could go for him as well. Their economical politics was pretty much followed through Lula's term (as it was responsible for ending the long inflation the country faced, and was the very reason why Fernando Henrique Cardoso was elected president, being the one that applied the "Real plan", to substitute the country's weak currency). Still, they are accused of paying little attention to social demands. Serra is currently the latest ex-governor of S?o Paulo, the most important state in Brasil (you have to drop your position in order to compete). Their main colors are yellow and blue, their symbol a Tucano (a type of black bird with a yellow beak).

Important: if no candidate achieves more than 50% of the votes in the first election (likely to occur, since there are other two, Ciro Gomes and Marina Silva, which represent votes of protest) there will be another election, on 31 October 2010, with only the two better placed on the previous one.

PS: I noticed that the last 2009 eclipse could be seen from the extreme northeast region of Brasil, and we had weak earthquakes there. They could easily be felt. These are extremely rare here, and I find them to be connected to the Haiti ones, somehow, linking the eclipse as well. More of this later.

Thanks for putting all the background of the candidates up and all 4 Ingress charts! I know next to nothing of Brazilian politics so that is most helpful. I look forward to seeing your prediction on the outcome here. Hopefully others such as Yuzuru will chip in later too.

Are you going to be giving primary emphasis to the Libra Ingress chart?

Since I started this thread way back, and we are only a day before the elections, I felt this is a good momento to give a partial feedback on how things evolved, and to give some opinions as well.

Back there, I was in the mood to try a full prediction, but to be quite sincere, I was overwhelmed by the amount of information in Astrologia Munda, so I could not get the confidence to use the thechniques (or the time to deeply study them) in order to apply those.

Anyway, the result will probably be the expected. The 1st turn of the elections almost gave victory to Dilma Rouseff, supported by the current president, Lula. Still, the contender Marina Silva, from the Green Party, was able to captivate 20 million electors, that added with Serra's 30 million (estimated) lead to the second turn. It seemed at first, on the beggining of the second turn after october 3, that Serra could pull it off, but as Marina assumed a neutral position, and despite some religious groups resistance to Dilma, she was able to recover, and all points to her victory tomorrow (she hal 55% against 40% roughly estimated, according to pools).

From an astrological perspective, now I feel that the use of the Libra ingress is more descriptive of the events unfolding. I was unsure if I should have used solely that, or If I should have made an analysis of all the ingresses and synthesized those. But now I'm under the impression that, if the result I'm stating holds true tomorrow, the most likely scenario, both from an astrological as from my perception of things, is Dilma's victory. I thank Yuzuru for pointing the use of the Libra ingress importance to me.

So, a little astrology now. As it can be seen from the Libra ingress, Mars, ruler of the MC, points that the party in power holds it's position. It is represented by Mars in domicile, and Venus, the party against it, is about to turn retrograde, and slow, very descriptive of what happened with Serra and his party by the end of the dispute. The Worker's Party is also represented by the red color (Mars) while the Social Democracy Party by the blue (Venus). Also of interest is that the AC ruler, Mercury, is in Virgo, the sign of Venus fall. The Moon, representative of the common people, is about to conjunct Jupiter and then enters the MC/10th sign, and despite this not being a reception per se it is still symbolic of the people's choice, to enter the current place of power, instead of opposing it, so, Mars will disposit the Moon for the period it will be in Aries, the 10th sign, a signature for the maintenance of the current party in power. Tomorrow I'll post the results of the election.

A few years ago, in the Interpres Stellarum list, me and Steven Birchfield discussed this method. Unfortunately, after it was developed many members started to treat it as "common sense", and so no need to quote the source. Of course there is more to it than simply comparing the 10th and the 4th. Maybe one day I will write something for Deb to dismiss the confusion.

I wish my first two outings with Aries Ingress charts for elections had been as straightforward. Unfortunately, I first tried it out on the UK and Australian elections this year which both produced the closest results in those countries since WWII.

I have been a planning an Aries Ingress retrospective on elections for a while and plan to open a thread on this soon. I am looking forward to participation from members who have experience in this area.

Please dont leave us in suspense for a full Skyscript article Yuzuru! If you have some useful ideas or feedback please share some of it here. What exactly is the confusion you are referring to? I know you dont go in for over wordy posts but this comment is too terse to make much sense to me.
