I have found a lawyer who is eager to tackle getting rid of my student loans. This would be based on injuries I sustained in two car wrecks. The loans are horrifically large, but I am ambivalent about going forward. Going to court could discharge the loans or not. In either case, I would be left owing the lawyer a fair amount (though nowhere near the level of the student loans).

I have taken a whack at analyzing this chart, but I could really use some help because I feel like I'm not seeing a clear yes/no answer.

I see no applying aspects between any of the significators involved, so I am looking at the essential dignities.

My significators are the Sun and Moon. Moon in its fall shows that emotional I am not happy, so that's right on target. The loan companies are represented by Saturn (7th cusp ruler). The Sun consider Saturn to be in its detriment, so again this is accurate. The judge for this case would be represented by Venus (10th cusp) and Venus is in the 12th, which I find a bit worrisome. However, Venus is ruled by the Sun (me) and also has Sun in triplicity so that looks good. Venus has Saturn in Face and Detriment which also look good for me, bad for the companies. What concerns me is the end of the matter represented by Mars (4th cusp). Mars only has Sun in face, while holding Venus in Trip, Term and Fall (seems like both positive and negative are represented here).

My initial take on this is that I would probably have the loans discharged, but there would be things about the case that would still not be any my favor.

After another look, I see that the Moon will not by applying in Ptolemic aspect to Mercury, and therefore is carrying the light from Venus (the judge) to Saturn (loans). Again Venus has Saturn in detriment so I'm thinking still might not be a good thing for the loan companies.

My lawyer wants to file papers on this this week, so I have to make up my mind quickly. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's a Mercury hr and there is no hr agreement. Mercury rules the 2nd house and this is a financial issue, so Mercury might be significant, but it's still not good to have an unrooted chart. Saturn rules the 7th too, which some would say makes it difficult for the astrologer to interpret.

You said that you are "ambivalent," and that could be this issue, since you are not set to go forward with this yet (and this might explain your peregrine sigs - feeling lost about how to deal with this). The Moon is both in fall and peregrine, while the Sun is also peregrine (also slow and at an early degree - you are hesitant about going to court).

However, Venus is ruled by the Sun (me) and also has Sun in triplicity so that looks good.

I just wanted to clarify some reception stuff with you, in case you have it mixed up. Maybe you are a Frawley student. Most horary astrologers would say Saturn would not receive Sun into detriment because Sun is in Saturn's detriment of Cancer. That would be difficult for Saturn and he likely wouldn't like that relationship, or might deny any aspect with Sun there, because Sun would bring an aspect to Saturn where he (Saturn) is most weak. In this case it would probably just mean he doesn't like not getting any money and would not agree with what Sun offers. This is especially true because there is nothing else between the two sigs that would make Saturn feel obligated to give something favorable to the Sun. In fact, they just went through a square aspect and neither party receives the other in any dignity, nor are they essentially dignified themselves (peregrine).

Venus is a benefic and under your rulership (where you are her host), which could mean that you want to make her happy, but also that she might be sympathetic in part to your case, but she does not aspect or receive you (other than face) and is peregrine herself and accidentally weakened in the 12th and also conjunct the S. Aselli, so she would likely be unable to give you what you want.

Your debt is likely the 8th ruler, Jupiter in the 8th. You said your debt is large, and Jupiter can be expansive. I keep wondering if Saturn collects light from Jupiter and Sun, and finally the Moon (and also Mercury). The Sun and Jupiter aspects are just out of sign, but it seems strange that they both aspected Saturn. I don't think you can ignore those previous aspects. You said there is no aspect between sigs, but you have a square there (Sun-Saturn). Moon also sextiles Saturn last before changing signs. The Moon is ad vac after the Venus aspect (also the Mars one prior, which is still within orb) and then finally sextiles Saturn. You often see a period of waiting with ad vac aspects - where nothing happens for a period of time. Strange because you haven't met with a judge or anything yet. Perhaps you will postpone this for a while. You'd almost expect deliberations, or something. I think the chart over all is a little mixed and leaning more towards difficulty than relief. I am not sure if Saturn collecting light and the Moon-Saturn sextile in this case is good or not. It brings together the planets to some sort of final outcome in your 2nd house... Your 2nd ruler could be possessions too - so maybe they want to take possessions from you that you are trying to hide (the combustion). You have two malefics in the 2nd house though, which doesn't seem to favor increase vs. decrease for you in finances (or relief). I have a feeling that Mars is the lawyer, the 9th ruler, and Mars, I think, is close enough to the 2nd to eat up your money. You said he is expensive, and I think that fits Mars. Mars is not a very good influence in the chart either, so he might not be a good lawyer. In a night chart it might have been different because Moon and Mars have sect and would be in reception. I think Frawley assigns lawyers to the 2nd house, but I usually give them 9th. Have you looked for pro bono work (free), if they offer it in your area? Most of the pro bono work in my region is for financial services. I hope you check the lawyer out well because this chart doesn't seem like you have anyone particularly helpful on your side.

With these debt things, I'm not sure if the 7th person has as much say as the judge (and governmental authorties) in whether or not you are disabled enough to get the educational debt removed. It seems more like a paperwork issue and some head person making a decision vs. the 7th party having very much say, but I don't know much about this. In court charts, normally you'd like a friendly aspect between L1 and L7 to make a nice deal where you settle and both sides get along well and reach a compromise, and also a favorable 10th influence for the judge, etc. Without an aspect, you are more likely to go to court and have differences and there can be a prolonged ordeal. You do have a separating Sun-Saturn square, and Sun now in Saturn's detriment, so I think they are unlikely to want to settle favorably with you (squares being difficult). Saturn would also make this more timely - multiple meetings, lots of paperwork, etc. There is a joke in one of my classical astrology books on Saturn in Virgo peregrine and how they are like dealing with the motor vehicle department - lots of stupid, rigid regulations and a lack of common sense. They could be governmental people literally. They are also in your 2nd house, and disposited by your 2nd ruler Mercury, dignified (although combusted by you - you don't want them to take your money). Mercury applies to square Saturn and receives Saturn in a mutual mixed reception (day chart has Saturn ruling air triplicites). The reception might lend some strength to Saturn, I'm not sure. You normally don't want the 7th ruler to be victorious in strength over the 1st ruler. Mercury combust might hide Mercury from Saturn, which would be what you want.

Like you said, there are some ambiguities here. I would say that the Moon being in fall (although just left the range of the via combusta) and leaving a benefic and applying to a malefic does not usually have an easy solution and there would likely be sacrifice or an outcome that you do not like very much if you move forward with this. The 7th ruler being a peregrine malefic in your 2nd would show a difficult party to deal with vs. an easy solution, but the fact that there is a sextile with Moon and they are mutually receptive to Mercury (vs. just being received by Mercury - so Saturn and Mercury owe it to each other to cooperate) seems to show a mixed outcome with both good and bad results. Maybe some sort of payment plan. I think they (the loans) will still get at least some of your money in one way or another. The PoF is also in a sign of Saturn, which seems to point to this too - they will get money.

With the Sun being so weak here and peregrine sigs, I personally wouldn't really recommend this route. Fixed angles and a Saturn influence means it would be a long process. Peregrine sigs when unreceived tend to cause more problems than good.

Tanit, thank you so much for the analysis. I have decided to do my best to put my lawyer off of this for a while. Besides the ambiguity of the horary chart, the mundane aspects at the moment are not good (to put it mildly). This just needs to wait.

If I understand the principle rightly the Moon is void of course. Seems apt for you deciding not to proceed.
