Hello,

In Dorotheus of Sidon's Carmen Astrologicum, there are a few chapters (chapters 20 onwards in Book II) referring to "Arrival of ..." where ... refers to the planets. If I read this correctly, they should mean natal planetary positions, right?

I believe you are correct, though I'd be curious to know what word(s) are being translated into arrival. That phrasing can make it easy to look at it as transits or the like. But looking through the text now the rest of the passages don't appear to bear that out.

Thank you GR for the response. I do not have the original language that Pingree translated - only his English translation.

Pingree did mention in his "Index of Subjects and Definitions" that Bk II chapters 20-33 refer to the Planetary Positions, whereas Prorogations are Bk III, Revolutions in Bk IV and Transits also in Bk IV. Hence, my initial suspect that arrivals = simply natal planetary positions. Why did use arrivals instead of the more common term like natal positions? That I do not know!
