Delineation of Saturn/Libra/rx as tornados

I was just on holiday in Montana when a tornado struck near Medicine Lake killing two. With winds estimated to be approximately 150 mph, the tornado was rated an EF3 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale by the National Weather Service and was the forth strongest tornado striking Montana in the last 100 years. Saturn/Libra as a significator for tornados is consistent with Abu Mashar's delineation of Saturn in the airy triplicity as disruptive to the atmosphere:

[Saturn] in the airy signs, snow, and hail which kills and destroys occur, together with coldness, the darkness of the atmosphere, violent winds, and the like. On the Great Conjunctions 8.1.8.

What is interesting about the Montana tornado chronology is that the 1st, 3rd, and 5th dates all happened when Saturn was in Libra. The strongest was the 1923 tornado, classified as F1; for that event chart, Saturn/Libra-rx sent her dexter square to Mars/Cancer and was disposed by Venus/Taurus conjunct Algol. Sun/Gemini had just passed its trine to Saturn.

1946 tornado: not Saturn but Jupiter/Libra-rx, with Sun/Gemini applying to Jupiter/Libra.

1988 tornado: Mercury/Gemini applying to a t-square with Mars/Pisces and Saturn/Sagittarius.

Timing Methods

Among the arsenal of timing methods for Ingresses (e.g., profections, directions, counting degrees between malefics and angles, etc.,) is the subsequent transit of planets conjunct their position in the Ingress chart. This can happen two ways: (1) when direct planets in the Ingress chart subsequently retrograde back to their Ingress positions and (2) when retrograde planets in the Ingress chart subsequently go direct and later occupy their Ingress positions. We get the first half of this from Abu Mashar, made in a reference to timing wars based the motion of malefics:

The time [in which wars occur] is known too from the malefic's motion. If it is progressing, it indicates that the events will occur when it retrogresses. If it is retrogressing, it indicates that the events will occur when its light mixes with the indicator of the king, and at the mixing of its light with the indicator of the subjects, it indicates a large amount of injustice and of thieves. On the Great Conjunctions 8.1.18.

Note Abu Mashar gives a different timing technique for when malefics are retrograde in the Ingress figure (relevant for Aries Ingress 2010) - and I will touch on that a bit later. Ibn Ezra supports the method labeled (2) above with this aphorism:

If the significator planet is retrograde and then its motion becomes direct, it indicates some completion of the matter. Book of Wisdom, trans. Epstein, 8.21.

Relevant to the current situation is that trSaturn direct will conjoin its 2010 Aries Ingress position on 6-Aug-2010, 4:59 AM EDT. The 26-Jul-2010 Montana tornado occurred shortly after Saturn made its Libra Ingress, setting up the Saturn return in the Ingress figure. It also occurred a couple days past the Sun's sextile to Saturn, in a nod to Abu Mashar's statement that retrograde planets in Ingress figures manifest their events when they mix with the light of the King. I haven't looked at directions, profections, etc., for this event as it was very minor as far as the history of the United States goes; most people are unaware of it.

Separate from weather concerns, Saturn/Libra-rx opposed to the Sun also signifies problems for the King this year; and with the 6-Aug-2010 date now within 48 hours, I believe it matches the assassination attempt made against Ahmadinejad this morning.

Saturn/Libra as significator for cold weather

As another example of how Abu Mashar's delineation of Saturn/Libra is playing out in the weather realm, refer above to the first citation where he says Saturn in the air signs kills through coldness. This time of year, it is cold in the southern hemisphere. A match to this delineation was fears of frost damage to the Brazilian coffee crop in June 2010. During June 7-24, coffee futures rose 32% on fears of a frost. It was colder than usual but not severe frost. But the scare was enough to drive coffee futures higher anyway, and as I write, those high prices made in June are sustained. I mention this event because it is a good example of Abu Mashar's timing method. On 7-Jun-2010, Sun/Gemini applied to the square of Saturn of Saturn/Virgo. On this date the applying square was 11 degrees, just inside Bonatti's recommended 12 degree moiety of orb for Sun-Saturn aspects (Sun= 15, Saturn = 9; 15+9=24; 24/2=12). The price peak of 24-Jun-2010 happened after Sun passed Saturn, but on the perfection of Mercury's applying square to Saturn.

Looking further out for Sun-Saturn aspects, the 30-Sep-2010 cazimi Saturn is of interest. On 13-Sep-2010, Sun/Virgo enters bounds of malefics, and while it is possible that the opposition of Jupiter must be dealt with first, late September does appear the next time to look for weather problems according to this timing method (also problems for Kings).
