Ed Miliband-Elected New Labour Party Leader (UK) 1 by Mark Ed Miliband is the new Labour party leader, it has been announced at a special conference in Manchester. He beat brother David by the wafer thin margin of 50.65% to 49.35% after second, third and fourth preference votes came into play. Ed Balls was third, Andy Burnham fourth and Diane Abbott last in the ballot of Labour members and trade unionists. Mr Miliband, 40, replaces acting leader Harriet Harman in the contest triggered by the resignation of Gordon Brown. He paid tribute to each of his fellow candidates in turn and told the conference: "Today we draw a line under this contest and move forward united as a team." The shadow energy secretary appears to have benefited from a last-minute surge of support before voting in the postal ballot closed on Wednesday. Older brother David won a majority of support from Labour's MPs at Westminster, but appears to have been defeated due to Ed's dominance among trade unions and grassroots activists in Labour's electoral college voting system. Source BBC News While David Miliband was the most popular candidate in terms of first preference votes his brother ultimately won due to second and third preference votes being transferred to him as other candidates were eliminated. At the moment I have no timed data for Ed Miliband so I can only display a noon chart. Ed Miliband, is the brother of David Miliband, the former Foreign secretary in the last Labour government. Ed Miliband was Energy minister in the last government and and previously an adviser to Gordon Brown. He is politically slightly to the left of his brother. Initially David Miliband was seen as the front runner. However, Ed Miliband's decision to run against his brother added a unique sibling rivalry aspect to the contest. Especially when it became clear the the winner was certain to be one of the brothers. Here is the generally accepted foundation chart for the United Kingdom Labour party: Last edited by Mark on Sat Sep 25, 2010 6:25 pm, edited 1 time in total. 2 by Mark Afraid I rather slipped up on exactly when the result was announced. I know it was approximately 4.30pm but I didn't catch the exact time of the result announcement. Any vigilant Skyscripters out there have an exact time? 3 by PallasAthene 24 dec.. is he the new messiah? : ) Are they Jewish? Capricorn is often associated with Judaism. And those pisces rising eyes. Sure lots of knickers will be sent to Parliament, but in a "good" way.. Sorry to pisces risers, but that is one slippery ac.. with ruler in the 8th.. concern with "power"? and politics is mostly hidden. And party chart saturn conj his AC.. in it for the long hall?.. saturn in pisces, no wonder the labour party are so unorganised. Remember the outcry over Michael Foot's duffle coat? How did the other Milibund's chart compare? Our country is getting younger! Moon cancer in the 5th.. he'll have lots of children! well he can afford them on that salary. I'd have said an artist tbh but maybe he'll keep his youthful looks. Is politics getting sexy??? Fantastic! Doesn't need to be any more "creative" than it already is... where's jupiter when you need him? Anyway, I popped over to see what house is used for elections in general. 3rd or 10th? or even 11th? Any ideas Mark? No apologies for thread drift : ) Quote Mon Sep 27, 2010 1:57 pm

5 by Mark 24 dec.. is he the new messiah? : ) Are they Jewish? Capricorn is often associated with Judaism. Traditionally its the planet Saturn and the sign of Aquarius associated with Judaism according to the Jewish medieval astrologer Ibn Ezra. The Miliband brothers come from two left wing parents who were Jewish in ethnicity but not faith. His father Ralph Miliband was a leading Marxist intellectual in the UK. And those pisces rising eyes. Sure lots of knickers will be sent to Parliament, but in a "good" way.. Wash your mind out with soap! In any case as I noted above we dont have exact data for this chart so it could be any rising sign. Sorry to pisces risers, but that is one slippery ac.. with ruler in the 8th.. concern with "power"? and politics is mostly hidden. See above note! And party chart saturn conj his AC.. in it for the long hall?.. saturn in pisces, no wonder the labour party are so unorganised. Remember the outcry over Michael Foot's duffle coat? See note above! You will see neither chart is timed. Our country is getting younger! Our politicians seem to be although demographically we are getting older as a society. A bit of a paradox really. Moon cancer in the 5th.. he'll have lots of children! well he can afford them on that salary. I'd have said an artist tbh but maybe he'll keep his youthful looks. Is politics getting sexy??? Fantastic! Doesn't need to be any more "creative" than it already is... where's jupiter when you need him? see note above! Party chart is interesting: Pluto rising for social reform with aq sun in 10th Neptune on 2nd.. they never did get the money right. POF in 9th the idealists party SN in 10th.. reincorporate to reverse! See note above! How did the other Milibund's chart compare? David Miliband , the former Foreign secretary came a very close second to his brother. In a strict sense he was the first choice of a lot more voters. However, due to the preferential voting system introduced in Labour party elections the winning candidate can pick up second, and third preference votes. David was considered more 'Blairite' than his brother. Ed Miliband successfully sought to garner more support from union members as David had more support from both MPs and constituency parties. Hence the Conservative party and similar media sections are a are now painting Ed Miliband as a 'creature' of the Trade Unions. The chart is below. Again no exact time! Anyway, I popped over to see what house is used for elections in general. 3rd or 10th? or even 11th? Any ideas Mark? No apologies for thread drift : ) The government is usually presented as the 10th house and the opposition as the 4th. Wlliam Lilly put the 11th house as representing parliament although Steven Birchfield has made an interesting case for the 9th house being parliament. In regards election contests specifically I can envisage at least three approaches. 1 One can see it as a 10th vs 4th house house contest with opposition vs incumbent government. Traditional Aries ingress charts tend to be interpreted this way although they were developed long before elections were created. 2 As the prize is political power, status, etc the 10th house seems logical as the focus of an election. The different parties would be the planets with most dignity in the 10th house. That could be domicile ruler, exaltation ruler, triplicity ruler etc or all three of the Dorothean triplicity rulers. Steven Birchfield has proposed this latter method for elections. One would assign the most appropriate planet to each party. Hence a conservative party to Saturn and a more liberal one to Jupiter. 3 A third approach derived from Guido Bonatti and his method of interpreting charts for war/battle would be to assign the two sides to the 1st and 7th house axis. We see a similar technique adopted in sports astrology. I would assume the incumbent party would be the first house and its ruler(s) and their oppnents/challengers to govern represented by the 7th house and its ruler(s). 6 by PallasAthene Frawley uses 10th to judge, for example boxing, with a reining champion.. It's the same as will the king stay king.. so, yes in a national General Election, I agree that 10th is fit for purpose. Sorry about the astro 101 error of note seeing midday charts. Shame. Did you catch Milliband jnr comment "I am not a rock star"? Made me think of 5th house moon : ) And thanks for Ibn Ezra and aquarius for Judaism. Must have read some modern who got the wrong end of the saturn stick Quote Tue Sep 28, 2010 8:44 pm

Its the only book by Frawley I dont possess. I suppose its time I picked up a copy somewhere. Lee Lehman goes more for the 1st vs 7th for sports events I think. Sorry about the astro 101 error of note seeing midday charts. Shame. Did you catch Milliband jnr comment "I am not a rock star"? Made me think of 5th house moon : ) Yes we have a deep dark pit here in the mundane forum for such unforgiveable errors. Dante's inferno has nothing on us. I am curious what his data is. As indeed are astrologers across the UK. It might be fun to put his chart on the natal forum and try and work out his rising sign from physiology and a few key dates in his life. And thanks for Ibn Ezra and aquarius for Judaism. Must have read some modern who got the wrong end of the saturn stick Still Ibn Ezra also describes Aquarius as the sign of the Devil. Thats why I dont have a picture up here. Those horns really put people off. The logic used by Ibn Ezra for this is that devout Jews are beyond the influence of the stars. Its only the Jewish backsliders that are supposed to come under such astrological influences. 8 by PallasAthene That last comment is very interesting and reminds me of something that Ben Dykes said recently when he lectured in Bath... that in traditional thought (can't remember which philosophy school, Stoic perhaps) the more conscious we are the less we are controlled by our natal chart. This is the Psychological Astrology philosophy and what is suggested to be the purpose of astrology, i.e Free Will is directly related to Consciousness. I'm thinking of articles I have read by Robert Hand and Liz Greene in particular. I always had the impression that this ''wisdom'' was around very early on in Astrology. I just threw this in as you sounded as though Ben Dykes was saying something unusual. Apologies for going away from Milliband. Quote Wed Sep 29, 2010 10:20 pm
10 by PallasAthene No, it was just the first time I'd heard it as I'm not exactly up on classical philosophy! And it did remind me of psychological modern astrology and also has a context in the Counselling degree that I'm currently enrolled on. All things are connected after all. If you wanted to know more about these references in early astrology I'm sure Ben would be a good and generous source of information. Whether that's the purpose of astrology or not I couldn't say. Maybe that's a personal choice? Looking at the Labour Party chart, moon opposing mars is a warrior type aspect and makes me think of all the strikes (martian word but actually removal of labour so saturn related?). The downtrodden workers ready to fight for themselves against the establishment that wanted to keep them in their place. The opposition shows the effect that Labour's dignified mars had on the Proletariat. It brought that need forth. Then again without a timed chart I suppose that observation can't be counted on either! Quote Thu Sep 30, 2010 12:39 am

In the meantime this outstanding article on classical astrology and philosophy should be of considerable help: http://www.iep.utm.edu/astr-hel/ Ironically, some of the approaches most open to the idea of transcending the horoscope came from those with the most determinist metaphysics! The common thread seems to be the idea that the mind (consciousness) can free itself or at least detach itself of the material, causal world. We see this approach in different ways expressed by Stoic, Hermetic and Gnostic thought. In orthodox Stoicism, the single most distinctive feature of the cosmos is perhaps its cyclical nature and its infinite repetition. The present Cosmos, the Stoics believed, will totally burn up, but the substance left by this mighty conflagration will give rise to a new cosmos indiscernible from the present one. However, this too will burn up through a new conflagration and a new, identical cosmos will arise, and so on ad infinitum. For the Stoics therefore the objective was 'apatheia' (???????) dispassion or indifference to the ups and downs of fate. This is quite reminiscent of Buddhist practice of 'detachment'. In Gnostic and Hermetic thought the planets and stars play a role in their cosmologies and eschatologies as oppressive forces or binding powers from which the soul, by nature divine and exalted above the cosmos, must break free. The Gnostic sought purification through complete detachment from the material world as this was perceived as evil and under the control of the Demiurge. Of course the terms Stoic and Gnostic are oversimplifications as these movements contained a variety of positions. The above image is A lion-faced deity found on a Gnostic gem in Bernard de Montfaucon's L'antiquit? expliqu?e et repr?sent?e en figures may be a depiction of the Demiurge. Note how it is linked to the Sun, Moon, and stars. As thou conversest with the heavens, so instruct and inform thy minde according to the image of Divinity William Lilly Quote Wed Oct 06, 2010 8:55 pm
