Is the Moon not a collector of light rather than a translater? As I understand it the Moon thus perfects the joining of Venus to Mars that would have been denied by the refranation. Can anyone confirm this?

Good technical question though.

The Moon can only translate light, not collect. Swifter planets do not collect the light of slower.
My 2nd question is since Venus and Mars are separating, is Moon becoming a translator of light?
Moon would translate a conjunction from Venus to Mars, but remember that the Moon is in fall/peregrine in Scorpio, and Venus is in detriment/peregrine (also accidentally afflicted by being retro and slow).

Regarding a positive outcome, it really depends on the chart as a whole. The Moon is translating the influence of a detrimented Venus from a place of its own fall in the via combusta. Lilly said to always regard the Moon's signification above everything else in the chart because she carries the virtue of the planets in the question. If Venus is the querent's significator, that also will be saying something important about the querent, since it is in detriment and retro (if you read Lilly's 43 aphorisms he addresses that meaning).

Mars receives the conjunction from a sign of his domicile, but still the conjunction brought to him has some problems. Malefics may never truly act as benefics, but assuming Mars is a significator and is well placed and has sect, then he may take the difficult influence and turn it into something more positive in the ways that he knows how (the ways of Mars).

HI

thanks Tanit and Matt23z!

Matt. with collection of light, a planet must be heavier than both planets. As Tanit said, Moon can only be a translator of light because it is the fastest moving object in the sky.

It is a moving querie between 2 people. I dont know if it is classified as a romance horary. I will put it up if people do not mind.
I believe Venus is peregrine as well
Thanks Tanit!

Tanit

I decided to post it.

I asked will MR move in by dec 31? Relationship - causual friends not even close friends. I want him to move in so we both can save money and buy 2 hours around the same time as investment. I am paying outragious rent so is he. He is not near by but more far away.

moveins

Moon conj Venus retro and then hops to Mars.. Interestingly enough Moon rules my house. My take is YES but I am not crazy about Venus being retro and so debilitated. Venus does re-enter Libra though but still in via combusta an entire time. Cardinal / Fixed - tells me probably weeks/months. it is too bad Lilly doesnt really explain mutual application.

Thanks

Hey, CD et al,

Lately, I?ve been having the same problem with Mars + Venus retro. Many of the horaries (my own and others?) I?ve been dealing with lately seem to be focused on that conjunction.

In my opinion, the key lies in what Tanit has said: Venus is extremely weak, and the Moon can?t do much about it, being weak as well. In this case, the chart is showing MR depending on you (a strong Mars in domicile), and the moon translating light from him to you, and ruling the end of the matter, shows that the moving is very likely to happen, but you should be aware that MR?s position will not make things easy for you, at least not in the short term (remember the long retro Venus still has to perform). The strong Scorpio in the chart probably shows money issues, and also the fact that you are Mars, with an Aries ascendant, probably indicates that the moving plan is something you came up with, and that MR is just playing along, waiting for you to make all the decisions.

As always, a Retro planet shows there are issues that still need to be unveiled, so it?d be important to check MR?s financial situation (to say the least) before taking advantage of the Moon?s position to speed up the moving.

Best of luck,

Melina :)

Hi Melina

I was afraid of someone saying what you just said and actually this was in the back of my mind. There is uneasiness about this. It makes sense. FUNNY you mentinoned that I came up with this. I DID! It is purely my idea (i have venus in virgo natally so I am always playing safe with money), besides i will have to move eventually. With this economy, it is a good time to buy. Moneywise he is doing better than me BUT I want to buy a house under my name to establish real estate / home ownership credit. We will split on fixing the house cost. So yeah it is funny how Ruler of 4th house sits in 7th not in my 1st. My house is in his hands literally.

Thanks for the wishes. Best of luck to you and thank you again!

"Matt. with collection of light, a planet must be heavier than both planets. As Tanit said, Moon can only be a translator of light because it is the fastest moving object in the sky. "

A heavier planet? Are you sure it has to be heavier? I'm just thinking of a slower moving but otherwise lighter planet could collect light. Say for example Jupiter is swift in motion but Mars is slow almost stationary, could mars not collect Jupiter's light? Not sure. NOrmallyt he heavier planets are the slower moving, but obviously there are circumstances where that's not true.

Yeah heavier meaning slower moving. I havent had any luck finding any charts with collection of lights, so i cannot bring up an example.

In this case, it is not collection of light but translation of light. we will find out soon enough

Yeah this isn't a collection anyway just mentioned it as someone else brought up the concept of collections of light. I always understood 'heavy' planets to be those that typically travel slower, but obviously 'light' planets can in certain circumstances travel slower than those planets we'd normally refer to as 'heavy'. Just being pedantic in making sure that the important concept was the speed of the planet at the time of the horary rather than what it's average speed is.

Not sure about the translation of light though. If I'm understanding what you're saying correctly, Moon wasn't, at the time of the horary, separating from Venus and applying to Mars. Instead Moon was applying to Venus, it hasn't perfected that aspect yet and wasn't within orb of Mars. Is that right?

If so Moon first of all has to apply to Venus, perfect the aspect and then move on to conjoin Mars before hitting any other planet. Does that happen in this horary? Are translations of light permissable for a translation that hasn't even separated from its first significator yet?

Dear Paul

Moon is approaching retro Venus. Yeah I am not too sure if it is translation of light here, either.

Lilly wrote
"Translation of light and nature is, when a light Planet separates from a more weighty one, and presently joins to another more heavy; and its in this manner, Let Saturn be in 20. degree. of Aries: Mars in 15 of Aries, and Mercury in 16 of Aries; here Mercury being a swift Planet separates from Mars, and translates the virtue of Mars unto Saturn. Its done also as well by any Aspect as by Conjunction. "

My issue with this TOL is
If Moon travels around 13 deg per day,
then Venus travels if direct at 59 08
and Mars travels at 0 31
This is far far from Translation of light.

Mars is slower than Venus but in this chart Venus is slow and retrograding.

You said

In this chart, Moon is applying to retro Venus then off to meet Mars. This is where i am stuck. Venus retro in scorpio very SLOW and via combusta.
The only 2 possitive things are 1. Moon/venus conjunct 2. conjunction occurs in 7th house. 3. Mars is strong - me

I wonder what would Deb say about this

thanks

It's not exactly straightforward. My understanding is that you really want a translator of light to be free from impediments and in a state that it can carry the light. I'm not sure if a debilitated moon can carry the light into the via combusta to aspect Mars. But really I'm not even sure of it because Venus is so slow here and because Moon wasn't actually separating from Venus at the time of the horary (which is what lilly describes translation of light to be, separating from one, applying to the other), is this really a translatino of light? If we see Venus as being a debilitated and slow planet at the time of this horary then why not suggest that actually venus prohibits the Moon-Mars aspect?
The only thing is, Spica is on the Descendant so perhaps if this is a relationship question then maybe there will be some success to it. I guess we'll find out in the fullness of time?
