Dalai Lama has asked to be released for his duties as political leader of the Tibetian excile movement when the Tibetian Parliament meets on March 14. He asks for a freely elected leader to take his place. "The time has come," says the 75-year old.

This is only 2 days after the ingress of Uranus to Aries, which occurs on March 12.

Thanks Andrew,

Afraid I haven't much time for the forum at present due to personal issues. Apart from looking at this as an event chart it would be good to have a radix to compare it with.

Nicholas Campion in his Book of World Horoscopes proposes a chart for Tibetan uprising against the Communist Chinese in 1959.

However, Tibetan national identity clearly goes back many centuries.

A key date worth taking a closer look at is the proclamation of independence issued by 13th Dalai Lama in 1913 following the collapse of the Manchu (Qing) dynasty in China. This proclamation document formally reasserted Tibetan national independence from China. Most histories of Tibet consider it effectively a sovereign state from 1913 up until the Chinese invasion in 1950.

I have done a bit quick research to try and locate the date for this as its missing from the historical accounts I have looked at. Fortunately, the date of the document is actually given according to the Chinese calendar! The document states it was issued on the eighth day of the first month of the Water Ox Year (1913). The Chinese new year is often simplified to February 4th. However, it actually varies based on the Luni-solar calendar. I see the Chinese new year was on February 6th in 1913.

So the 8th day of the first month would would have been February 13th 1913. The effective Aries ingress would therefore be for 1912 rather than 1913. Here is a copy of the Proclamation for anyone interested.

Hi Tara,

I have seen numerous birth times proposed for the Dalai Lama. The Source notes on astrodatabank confirm this ambiguity. The majority opinion seems to go for 5-6am 'around sunrise'.

The timing is certainly not as definitive as the A Rodden rating might suggest . Although I acknowledge this is a popular time on astrology sites. That doesn't make it reliable. For example there is a totally different time attributed to the Dalai Lama's oldest sister. She allegedly stated he was born in the middle of the night. She is an important source as she assisted in his delivery.
