New Release: The Forty Chapters of al-Kindi 1 by Ben Hi All, I wanted to let all Skyscripters know that my latest translation, The Forty Chapters of al-Kindi, is now available! This is a famous work by the 9th Century Arab philosopher and astrological writer, al-Kindi, who famously inspired Abu Ma'shar to study astrology. It is the first translation into any language since the 12th Century Latin versions. It's primarily a horary work, but contains valuable information on elections, and may be the earliest known work to endorse Regiomontanus houses. It was also used extensively by 'Ali al-Rijal (Haly Abenragel), and also William Lilly. Some of you may know that in 2010 I outlined a "cycle" of translations in all branches of traditional astrology (as well as some larger works like al-Rijal and Firmicus Maternus). Al-Kindi's book is Volume II of the horary portion. Volume I (The Search of the Heart, by Hermann of Carinthia) will be out in a few weeks, and later this spring or early summer, Volume III: The Book of the Nine Judges--a very large work, probably 700+ pages of horary material.
