Posted: Mon Apr 25, 2011 8:25 pm
The Scottish Astrological Association is delighted to offer an introductory workshop on traditional natal astrology with Dr Benjamin Dykes who is currently visiting the UK.
An Introduction to Traditional Natal Astrology
Saturday May 28th 2011
10:00am-5.00pm
At The Theosophical Society,
28 Great King Street, Edinburgh
EH3 6QH
Dr. Benjamin Dykes is a leading medieval astrologer and translator who gained his PhD in philosophy from the University of Illinois. He received his medieval astrology qualification from Robert Zoller and taught philosophy courses at universities in Illinois and Minnesota. In 2007?10 he translated and published Guido Bonatti?s Book of Astronomy, the Works of Sahl & Masha?allah, and Persian Nativities I-III. In 2011 he has just released further volumes of essential translations of horary works. He currently offers the Logos & Light Lectures, philosophy courses on MP3 for astrologers and occultists, and reads charts for clients worldwide on his site at www.bendykes.com.
During the workshop Benjamin will use real client charts, which are suitable for students at all levels of learning: these lectures constantly emphasize basic principles and aim to explain how to interpret charts in a lucid, traditional way.
The workshop will be structured into the following sections:
Introduction to Traditional Astrology This section will provide an introduction to basic principles of traditional astrology, how it differs from many modern approaches, and some basic guidelines on traditional chart interpretation. Learn concrete applications of house rulerships and positions.
Dignities: detriment, fall, exaltation Dignities are extremely important in astrology, but often not well understood in modern practice. We will use several charts to illustrate the concrete meanings of exaltation, detriment, and fall.
Aspects and aversions: planets relating to their own signsTraditional astrologers emphasized the importance of a planet being able to see or aspect its own sign. We will look at this through the concept of ?aversion,? or an inability to see the sign, and also to relate it to the meaning of the 12th, 8th, and 6th.
Relationships and the Lot of Marriage Recent translations have brought to light the importance of the Lot of Marriage and its use in predicting relationship developments and stages. We will illustrate the use of this Lot with several charts, using profections and transits.
Profession and work
This section will look at several traditional approaches to delineating work and profession in the chart, using solar phases, the Lot of Work, and the Midheaven.
