Don't know if they have been spreading this to the rest of the world, but there is a bit of a craze over here stateside regarding Judgement Day being this Saturday 21 of May. Supposedly a great earthquake will start in New Zealand and spread to the rest ofthe world during the course of 24 hours.



I've cast a couple of charts in various times and locations and a couple of them are indeed perturbing, but not all. Anyone heard of this or checked any charts regarding this?

I've heard of it and I also heard the guy proclaiming it being interviewed on Coast to Coast AM. I found him to be full of it, frankly. Not very astrological, I know.

I have been considering deleting this entire thread. Its the kind of unsubstantiated religious nuttiness you expect on You Tube but not on a quality astrological site like Skyscript. As 2012 hysteria approaches I dont intend to let the mundane forum degenerate to that kind of superstitious paranoia.

Still where does this weird way out theory originate from?.

Its seems to be a Harold Camping , a USA based Christian fundamentalist, who heads the Family Radio broadcasting network, and claims there is "infallible, absolute proof" that there's no point in making plans for May 31st.

This seems to be based on a convoluted numerology. May 21, 2011, is 'Judgment Day' , according to this apocalyptic theory because Jesus was crucified on Friday, April 1, 33 AD(??), and it takes exactly 365.2422 days for the earth to complete one orbit of the sun, we can conclude that, on April 1, 2011, Jesus was crucified exactly 722,449.07 days ago. Add 51 days to this to get to May 1, and you get a figure of 722,500.07. Dont make any plans that evening as apparently this all kicks off at 6.00pm.

Simple! Why didn't we all see it?

Probably, because we are not part of the tiny minority headed for heavenly rapture who will be whisked away to the sweet hereafter, leaving the rest of us to weather five months of extreme natural disasters until Oct. 21, whereupon God destroys the entire universe and everyone left in it. Yep thats the view of a Harold Camping and ilk.

Of course apocalyptic beliefs of the end of the world are not new. Many early Christians believed they were living in the last days and there were several scares in the medieval period. If you happen to share this extreme religious outlook you are welcome to it. However, please dont post on Skyscript without some actual astrology to back up such hysterical speculation. Even then I may need to consult Deborah Houlding if this material is really the kind of thing we want on Skyscript.

So far. Its where this kind of thread could go that worries me. Unchecked its kind of an open door for some real wacko posts. Sorry if that makes me a Kiljoy.

My vote is to erase it. This kind of topic is neither astrological nor serious, and with 2012 so near, we are bound to get a lot of those topics around, so a strict policy would be a good idea.

I agree. I dont mind the lack of seriousness at all. Its the non-astrological content combined with the religious apocalyptic nature of it that deeply concerns me. As you state things are only going to get worse as we approach 2012. I dont think the deletion of this thread would be a big loss. I also propose a slight change to the mundane forum guidelines to reflect a line against these kinds of threads. I have contacted Deb about this for her view.

After reading an article about the Japan quakes in an astrology magazine and and there was a post on one of these forums about the earthquake in Italy. I thought I would check the date for May. I was only wondering if anyone else did the same.

Fine. Its nothing personal by the way. I dont doubt you personally had some genuine astrological research in mind. Its just you seemed to want to tie in your astrological research with this end of world prediction. That is what concerned me. I do think the recent incidence of earthquakes is an interesting issue. I just dont think we should seek inspiration from eccentric religious fundamentalism in finding the astrological clues.

This is the first time that Mark has suggested deleting a whole thread, and I?m happy to follow his opinion on whether this topic should continue to receive coverage here. With only one day left to go it might be best to leave it until after the date for the end of the world has been and gone, and I wonder if it might be helpful to point to this in the future when the next apocalypse day prediction comes around.
The point of interest to me is why these kinds of ominous predictions get originated and then get so much public interest and promotion. I think the human race, as a collective, loves a drama. Unfortunately astrology does get pulled into the discussion because of the links between numerology and the lengths of astronomical cycles. The same used to happen with eclipses, and there are almost comical historical tales of preparations that were made to avoid the destruction associated with the eclipse date. I would say either blitz the thread Mark, or unlock it for broader discussion on astrology?s involvement with predictions of doom. I can think of reasons why that could become quite informative and interesting.
