A devastating 200mph tornado tore a path a mile wide and six miles long straight through the city of Joplin, Missouri on May 23rd. This was the deadliest single tornado in more than 60 years in the USA with at least 140 people reported killed so far and many still missing.

The pre-lunation chart for this event is interesting. The Sun was on the ASC on the fixed star Algol opposed by the Moon in Scorpio on the Desc.
A Venus/Mercury/Mars conjunction in Taurus in the first house ( Whole sign) with Mars in its detriment. The entire conjuction squares the MC. This conjunction occurs sidereally amongst fixed stars stars in the head of the constellation of the Ram (Mesarthim, Sheratan) which are according to Ptolemy of the nature of Mars-Saturn and are very violent in influence. Jupiter Lord 8 is in the 12th house and disposited by a debilitated Mars.

Note among others that Jupiter (opp. Pluto/AC ) rules house for. The tenth degree Gemini is a potentially destructive one, as has often been shown (e.g. it has played an important role in nuclear research (and its destructibve consequences, among them Fukushima). Mercury is square Uranus.

Although the corresponding solar of that conjunction was in effect for only about ten more days it was still able to give its full impact: SAT conj. MC (exact) opp. JU/UR conj IC (exact again).
