Ephemeris:

For me it is 'Raphael's Ephemeris', published by W. Foulsham. You can now get this in 50,100 or 150 years editions. Unlike the American Ephemeris it also has the Black Moon Lilith. I have studied Lilith a great deal and no serious astrologer should ignore it. The major asteroids are also listed every ten days, and of course, Chiron is there too.

General astrology (1):

For a modern approach to astrology you must read Stephen Arroyo's Astrology, Psychology and the Four Elements. It might even come in useful in debates over 'how astrology works' - Arroyo manages to take various abstract metaphysical concepts and make them accessible and convincing!

General Astrology (2):

The other one you need is Horoscope Symbols, authored by Robert Hand. A brilliant introduction to the symbolic system that is astrology; indeed, an exhaustive account that manages to be lucid, informative and even entertaining.

Psychology:

The leading author here is Liz Greene and I would recommend any of the following three - Relating , Saturn or The Astrology of Fate. In all three, and in her typically profound way, she invokes archetypes from myth, fairy tale and depth psychology to illuminate how astrology really works in our lives.
