Hi,

I am slowly reading Persian Nativities 3, translated by Ben Dykes.

On Page 25 there is a section: Alternative Lords of the Year:

If Leo/Cancer is the profected ascendant there are a list of rules for calculating the primary significator.

I'm stuck on the first rule and would welcome any clarification:

1 Domicile Lord of the directed hilaj

I take hilaj to be the almuten?

The hilaj/almuten of what?

What is being directed and is it refering to primary directions?

Hilaj is the Arabic word (really a borrowing from Persian) that became Latinized as hyleg. It is the main significator of life. And yes, 'direction' in medieval sources refers to primary direction. There was no other kind until the 17th century.

Hilaj = hyleg.

So I'm directing (primary) the hyleg of the natal chart and I use the domicile ruler of the sign that the hyleg has moved to?

For example if the hyleg is in virgo in the natal chart and by direction it falls in either cancer or leo ( I think I have this the right way round) then you move on to ruke 2?
