Let?s do another Worsdale. This time we?ll use the chart of Richard White as given on page 110. I?m going to use the Delphic Oracle Program written by our own Curtis Manwaring. Curtis recently upgraded his most recent version to include a primary directions program based on the teachings of Martin Gansten. By using this program we not only have the advantage of asking questions directly of them, if necessary, but should things go wrong, we can always blame them.

I adjusted the LMT in order to get a close approximation to the chart published by Worsdale and used Lincoln as the location which varies slightly from the text.

We start with natal analysis. We?re looking to determine hyleg first of all. Not easy since both lights are below the horizon. I ran the Janus traditional module and that said Ptolemy would have chosen Jupiter as Hyleg (angular in 7). Bonatti would have chosen the Moon. I?ll have to look up why. Worsdale picks the Sun probably because with Placidus cusps, The Sun is in the first house, albeit not in the first sign. The Sun and Moon are both peregrine. The Moon is square Mars (lord 8 ) in Virgo and the Sun, according to Worsdale, is conjunct Saturn in Aries. At 12 degrees separation and in different signs, this is a stretch.

Worsdale does not mention any fixed stars in this nativity, but the Sun is very near Hamal, a 2nd magnitude star of a Mars-Saturn nature. Robson associates it with dissipation. The Moon is close to three fixed stars, but none seems particularly evil. Robson associates Bellatrix and the Moon with ?waste.? I?m not sure he means in the physical sense though, but he doesn?t say.

In general, this horoscope does not appear to support a long life. The Sun and Moon are weak. The ASC is not supported by the benefics (nor is anything else). The malefic south node is hanging around the ASC, too, but in a different sign. However our hero does point out a few positive things in the life. The native was seriously ill at age 16, but survived. For Worsdale this would be a blessed event. And the native does marry at age 21. He shows us how the directions indicate those two things. That?s next.

Uh-oh. Actually, I think it's a very good thing for this to get tried out on Skyscript; I haven't had the time I should have wanted to help test-run the software.

Thanks, Johannes. It may also be worth pointing out that Worsdale's astrology changed quite a bit in the approximately three decades that separate the two books, and that Tom is looking at his later work.

Tom... I'm not sure why the image is so wide, but HTML standards only require 70 dpi for resolution to look good on computer screens. One only needs 300 dpi (or greater) for printing. Under Reports | Print Preview one can see both types and by selecting File | Save Jpeg As, one can get rid of all that white space to the right just by resizing the window to the dimensions you want, closing the window and then re-opening.

If the chart is too large, keep in mind that it is WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get), so resizing the vertical space of the main window and redrawing will give you the size you want, then you can repeat the steps above for getting the Jpeg file.

PS - If you have imaging software such as Photoshop or Fireworks, etc... Then you can just press F7 to get a screen shot of the whole program, and then use the crop tool to generate a Jpeg, Png, etc...

Tom, as you mentioned both works of Worsdale in your first Worsdale thread, and

Martin, you managed to solve the confusion of the titles there,

I thought it would be proper for the sake of completeness to have both books at hand, even though the second book is so much more interesting from the technical point of view.

I should like to thank both of you for the generation of this new and the first Worsdale thread and your (and others') invaluable comments.

Due to it being a visual operation, it is a bit difficult to describe. You were close because it does indeed distort the chart, but you're supposed to close it and reopen it, then resize again until the white space is cropped off. If the image is too large then you have to resize the main window and close, then redraw (keep the chart in retained status to make this easier). Then repeat the process. This is what I get below:

BTW, the print settings (DPI) on Html/print options is for the printer and Acrobat file generation (F6). The generation of jpeg files is automatically set at 70 DPI so all you have to do is the visual resizing of the window, closing and reopening.
