Hello!
Does anyone know what kind of fish it is "The Fork-fish"? It's from William Lilly's "Christian Astrology" Book I, chapter X p. 68? I'm working on polish translation of this text and I'm stucked on this fish. Thank you for your help!

not sure but given the group and characteristics it is mentioned with, it is likely to be a fork tailed catfish.
Cat fish have the barbels(whiskers) and so do the barbels and many of them have poisonous sting as well.
So, it fits the lumping of the group with

all stinking worms and scorpions

It seems the Barbels were quite prized in the Elizabethan period.

The Barbel is already mentioned in the Lilly's list of fishes:

[FISHES.] The Pike, the Shark. the Barbel, the Fork-fish, all stinking Worms, Scorpions.

Mayby I should ask Deb like you suggests.

It's the stingray. It was very hard to identify because it only goes by that name in historical texts, but here are three links to works were it is described:
