I watched this video and it all clicked into place. I think having a prominent 8th house predisposes one towards being very secretive. I know I am, and I always have been inclined towards "covert" actions, and I always feel really naked if I expose too much of myself to people. Also it is reasonable to assume that this love of that which is secret could also lead one to becoming interested in the occult. Hope this helps other people who were unsure about what their 8th house placements meant.

Yes, that's one of the significations typical of the 8th, since it doesn't behold the ascendant - one of the "dark" houses.

Quite interesting.I thought of the following.Since the 7th house is lilely to represente the country that is directly opposite ours( NZ for a Briton), then which countries would be 120 degreees from the UK(9th house)?

Yeah, I had frequently read that before, but I always discounted it because I feared that it was merely a modern interpretation of the 8th house. But after watching that video on youtube (vedic astrology) I realized that secrecy as one of the significations of the 8th house is not actually a modern interpretation but possibly a more traditional one.
