Good news for all students of traditional astrology.

Peter Stockinger has just published A German Stargazer?s Book of Astrology. This is the first English translation of Astronomia Teutsch Astronomei, published in 1545 in Frankfurt am Main. The original work was one of the earliest astrological textbooks in the vernacular, predating William Lilly?s famous English primer Christian Astrology by a century.

I think its especially valuable to have an English translation of a European renaissannce work like this. Texts like this serve as a bridge between Perso-Arabic astrology and the better known later English language astrologers such as Lilly, Gadbury etc.

Renaissance astrology is also a period where less translations in English are currently available than other eras of astrological history. So this work is especially welcome for these reasons too.

Yes, this looks like a very valuable text - it's wonderful that Peter has done this. I'm looking forward to reading it.

BTW, it often gets reported that Lilly's work was the first textbook written in English, though that's not actually the case. This link goes to an astrological text written in English in the early Tudor period (1490):
