I'm waiting until the two day declarations reduce the list of runners a bit.

There is something of a problem with the Campanus 5th cusp. Although it applies to Venus at the scheduled start time, if the race is one minute late, then it will be separating from the Venus aspect.

Things that I have noted are Neptune close to the descendant (but in the 6th), and the complex of quintiles and bi-quintiles linking Asc, PoF and Saturn, Sun and Uranus, and the Moon.

True, GB - have you researched the difference between scheduled & actual start times in relation to the Campanus 5th cusp method?

I noted in Brady's paper on Castle Besiegement in Sport (1997) that she states the following:
In collecting the data or the individual Test matches, Brady was given both the scheduled start times as well as the actual start times, which varied considerably due to rain delay. Both times were examined and the scheduled times yielded far better results in the model than the actual start time.
Also, GB I have started to incorporate silk colours into my judgements after reading some of your early posts on this forum. I think you are right when you say that if the name & silk colours match, the horse 'often' wins.

I quite like the idea of Balthazar King - 5th cusp applying to Venus - opposite Regulus.

'BALTHAZAR' -

Balthazar \b(a)-ltha-zar, bal-thazar\ as a boy's name is a variant of Balthasar (Babylonian), and the meaning of Balthazar is "Baal protect the king".

And

Yes, that could be a serious possibility. I think the colours are red and blue. I would usually associate pale colours with Venus, and I think these are quite strong/dark, but Jupiter is Lord of the Hour so that might be all right.

Hello GB

Colours seem to work quite well in smaller races in my experience, but when there's 40 or so runners, i think using the colour method is not so accurate. Also, with a race of the magnitude of the Grand National - the winner is written into the history books - so i think it's the name that's important - that's what people remember!

This chart reminds me of two other charts where the Part of Fortune made a hard aspect to a planet and activated it. The first was a night time chart on 27 2 2008 at 00.56 in Market Rasen when POF conjuncted Uranus. I was awoken at this point as many people were in the surrounding counties by an earthquake 5.2 on the richter scale epicentre Market Rasen about 30 miles east of here. The second was last year's Cesarewitch horse race on 12 10 2013 at 15.50 BST when POF opposed Mercury in Scorpio and I backed Scatter Dice which got left in the stalls and was four lengths last until it gradually made its way through the field to burst through and won by three lengths at 66/1.
So I am looking for a Saturn connection in the race and I choose Vintage Star dob 22 4 2006 owned by Trevor Hemmings dob 11 6 1935 and thus 78 years old

Impressive picks so far, guys - like Frawley suggested, combining art with discretion.

For me Balthazar King is the best horse on paper overall. When studying the form over the last 3 races, Balthazar also comes out on top and Vintage Star is definitely in the top 10. Plus they're both ridden by great jockeys.

I agree, Simon - I'm using the POF for this race as it resonates for a good 10 mins whilst applying to Saturn.

Because it's the National, I'm allowing myself 2 picks e/w:

-Rocky Creek
-Mountainous
