In the UK there has been a recent television programme Horizon - How to Find Love online.

There is a lot of content about algorithms and dating sites. One of the 'science based' papers referred to is detailed beneath:

Neural Correlates of Four Broad Temperament Dimensions: Testing Predictions for a Novel Construct of Personality

http://www.helenfisher.com/downloads/ar ... l_2013.pdf

The reference to four neural correlates of personality are described as
1 Curious/Energetic
2 Cautious/Social Norm Compliant
3 Analytical/Tough-minded
4 Prosocial/Empathetic

The descriptions, including those on the programme, appear to have a resemblance with the astrological temperaments.

Has anyone come across this study before and any astrological commentary on it?

I am not aware of this particular study but this looks like something based on Myers Briggs personality tests and the similarity with temperament has been noted

The above link is a very simple intro but Traditional Astrology eg. Lilly gives a more involved method of calculating temperament from the natal chart
