E-mails ruled by 9th ?

It`s a little off topic, but this thing got me really angry.
I think all people, mainly newbies, should be very aware and fearful of what they read in sites and in discussion list without moderation of a good astrologer !

Look at what I just read ! The question is about an email, the person wants to know what houses rules an email to another one, look at the answer !

>9th house is used for email because Internet is the metter of 9th house...
>3th house is post, letters, telegraphs...

And below my totally non polite response, but one that I belive very much, even if it hurts any sensibilities. :???:

Does anybody have any idea what is the 9th house ?
People should let this psycho bable astrology for modern astrology, for gods sake, no one read Lilly anymore ?
The meaning of Traditional Astrology is to follow an array of rules done my the great master of past... we can change it, we cant invent ourselves withou any responsability.
People wants to say they do horary only as a new source of income, dont matter if the technique is right or wrong.
If these are the rules of the games, I want sugest my Playstation is not ruled neither by the 2nd or 5th houses... it is ruled by the 11th, because is the natural house of "aquarian objects".

If that person had given some reason as to why emails are governed by the 9th (including a reason as to why the internet is "9th House"), then I would consider it.

If the person had worked from "first principles," or provided some principled, reasoned argument for their conclusion, then I would not necessarily reject it out of hand. There are many things of course in modern life which we will not find in traditional house lists, written hundreds of years ago.

However, there is simply no reason why emails should be seen as anything but a 3rd house matter: email = electronic mail. mail = 3rd House!!

The "reasoning" may have been simply a higher form of communication following the standard 3rd/9th rationale.

Though that is distinctly debatable for email :D ...personally I'd still put it in the 3rd too.

Sending 9th house electronic messages might work for communicating with those on the ?other side?. Could that be where spam is coming from?

For everyday earthbound communication the 3rd house seems to do the trick.

I was very angry at that time, I am studying astrology almost all day long, so I am looking at a LOT of sites.
It?s amazing how many non sense stuff is out there, so it can be read as if it had any truth in it... astrologers who dont know what is exaltation, who dont know that Mars rules scorpio..., who thinks Leo is a fertile sign...

I got angry because I like horary and traditional astrology very very much ! And it makes me very sad that many people are creating web sites saying that they do horary because they realise it is a good way to make a quick buck !

I dont know if a Spaceship should be ruled by Uranus (yugh !), but there is no motive an email would be ruled by the 9th only because it is "overseas communication". If that holds, we couldn`t use the 3rd for cars, for example, that didn`t exist in Lilly?s time. Should we use the 9th also ? As I said before maybe I should use the 11th for my playstation :brows

Sorry for the outburst... but in all fields of knowledge it seens people only value the "McDonald?s knowledge" which is
1 - ready and easy, without depth or substance
2 - can give you a quick buck
3 - dont make you think

I give classes in sociology of labour... it is amazingly hard to convince my students (mainly business ones) to try different models of thought, because almost everything they have been taugh is pragmatic, positivist, "the truth without questioning of modern science" and in most cases false, only a power discourse (I am a foucault follower).

The problem of internet is that it speed a lot the communication... stupid information has no density, so travel faster than good, solid, dense knowledge :D

Has anyone really said that? I can?t imagine that anyone who is fixated on the need to make a quick buck could be a good astrologer no matter what branch of astrology they are applying; least of all horary, where the whole thing turns on a sincere approach.

I do agree that students should be wary of expecting to learn and understand horary through discussion forums (this one included) because the posts that really get to the heart of an issue are few and far between. That?s not to say that the others have no value, but anything that is actually taught or offered to consolidate understanding is always going to be presented out of synch with the broader picture. That?s why, even though discussions forums can be very useful, they can also lead to a lot of confusion and misunderstandings too.

There?s only one way to learn horary, and that?s to study it with a deep commitment, and gain a wide experience of chart judgements, starting with those that have been published by horary astrologers with good reputations. Forums are a good place to knock ideas around but they definitely shouldn?t be relied upon or used as a replacement for studying the classic texts and important works on this subject.

This makes no sense at all. Communication has always been 3rd house. Whether it is a letter or an email makes no difference. It is still communication and still 3rd house. Same goes for whether it is communication from next door or from overseas. I have never seen any horary rules that state you can take the 3rd from the 7th for communication.

An email sent to an email discussion group (such as yahoogroups) can easily be considered as publishing and assigned to the 9th house. Anyone can read the message at any time in the future, it is not considered as a private message anymore (from a person to another).

I would disagree with this. It is a very tenuous connection. Forums are not a place of publication. They are an exchange of ideas, which seems a lot like communication to me. But these things need to be put into some sort of context. What sort of a question would require seeing an email as a publication? If someone were to ask 'Should I post a message on the forum?', I can't see how you could ever give it a 9th house signification. I would see this as a 3rd house question. 'Should I send a letter to the newspaper?' is a similar thing. 'Should I publish this collection of letters as a book?' is entirely different and would require signification from the 9th house.

I couldn't see anywhere in the example that explains why the querent uses the 9th for emails but I think anyone who asks a horary about whether they have any emails or not when they are there at the computer anyway needs to get a life.
